The New Teacher Academy, held on Friday, Aug. 2, at Buckingham County Middle School, brought together new educators, school leaders and board members for a day of professional development and collaboration. The day kicked off with a “Breakfast Bonanza” provided by The Equitable Branch, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all participants. Keynote speakers, including Joii Goodman, Buckingham School Board Chair and Dr. Keeler, Buckingham Superintendent, delivered an “Opening Ovation,” inspiring new teachers with their vision for the district. Sessions such as “Knightly Knowledge,” featuring Dr. Keeler, Sarah Walker, Preschool Principal, and Damon Talley, Buckingham County High School Principal, offered valuable insights into the district’s educational strategies and goals. The “Wheels on the bus go round Buckingham” tour, led by Ronnie Palmore and Denise Bryant, provided new teachers with a unique perspective on the community they will serve. Additional sessions like “HR Headquarters” and “Differentiation Dynamics” equipped educators with the knowledge and tools necessary to support diverse student needs. Dr. Courtney Browning and Dr. Emily Harris provided the “Lift-Off” session, positioning new teachers into a great school year with motivation and practical strategies.
