This letter is in response to the well-written, well-documented opinion piece written by Ellery Sedgwick regarding STEPS. We, as residents of Layne Street, support STEPS and the needs of the people in crisis in our area. We do, however, object to the placement of the proposed housing project in our neighborhood and to the fact that extensive details of the entire proposal have never been made accessible to the general public.

We are concerned that a project of this magnitude, clearing over 40 acres of wooded land at the intersection of Layne Street and 15, will totally disrupt the neighborhood in which it is proposed to be built. We have many questions regarding the zoning of the affected area. We have many concerns about the makeup of the proposed population, the structures themselves, and the future STEPS and VSH support of the project. We are good and caring people who want the best for this community facing serious challenges. We would like to see this project moved to a location that would better serve all of us.
