AUGUST 10
SUMMER FESTIVAL — A festival celebrating 110 years of the Curdsville school will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, running from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. This will be at 122 School Road in Dillwyn, with food, music, yard games and more activities. The cost is $20 for adults, with children getting in free.
PLAY PERFORMANCE — The Waterworks Players will perform the play Five Women Wearing the Same Dress by Alan Ball on Saturday, Aug. 10. The shows will run at 7:30 p.m., with tickets $12 each and available online at https://waterworksplayers.org/buytickets. Warning: the comedic play contains mature content.
GOSPEL BLUEGRASS CONCERT — Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will hold a gospel bluegrass concert on Saturday, Aug. 10, featuring the Glory Bound Bluegrass Band. The event starts at 6 p.m.
FREE LOCAL MUSIC — The North Street Press Club, located at 127 North Street in Farmville, will host country musician Glen Shelton on Saturday, Aug. 10, starting at 9 p.m.
AUGUST 11
HOMECOMING — Sharon Baptist Church will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 11, beginning at 10 a.m. A fellowship dinner will follow the morning service.
HOMECOMING — New Witt Baptist Church, located at 7469 Meherrin Road in Farmville, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 11, beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Shandell Howell will deliver the message.
HOMECOMING — Sulphur Spring Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. There will be no afternoon service and lunch will immediately follow worship.
HOMECOMING — New Store Baptist Church, located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 11, beginning at 11 a.m. The theme is “Home is Where the Heart Is,” taken from Psalm 90:1, with Pastor Irma Exantus delivering the message. Lunch will immediately follow the service.
HOMECOMING — Bethel United Methodist Church, located at 3551 Andersonville Road, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. Pastor John Flood will deliver the message, followed by lunch.
HOMECOMING — Cornerstone Baptist Church will celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 11, during the 11 a.m. service. The service will be from Pastor Rev. Cetric Gayles, with lunch following after.
CCLA MEETING — CCLA’s community townhall meeting is set for Sunday, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. in the Cumberland County Community Center. That’s Luther P. Jackson School, located at 71 Community Drive in Cumberland. The guest speaker will be Muriel Branch from the AMMD Pine Grove Project.

REVIVAL — Cornerstone Baptist Church will hold revival from Aug. 12 to Aug. 14, starting at 7 p.m. Pastor Timothy Hurt of High Bridge Baptist Church will preach Monday, with Pastor Rayvon Johnson of Antioch Baptist on Tuesday and Pastor Jerry Streat of Poplar Lawn Baptist Church on Wednesday.

Worship begins at 7:30 p.m. Pastor Irma Watson of Midway Baptist Church will preach on Tuesday, Aug. 13; Apostle Michael Mosely of Full Life Fellowship Ministries will deliver the message on Wednesday, Aug. 14 and Pastor Robert Waker of Forest Baptist Church will speak on Thursday, Aug. 15.

REVIVAL — New Witt Baptist Church, located at 7469 Meherrin Road in Farmville, will hold revival from Wednesday, Aug. 14 to Friday, Aug. 16. Rev. Vincent Eanes of Lone Oak Baptist Church will preach on Wednesday, with Rev. William Thomas of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Green Bay on Thursday and Rev. Jerry Streat of Popular Lawn Church in Blackstone on Friday.
AUGUST 17
FIREHOUSE FUNDRAISER — The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host a meatloaf supper on Saturday, Aug. 17, running from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The meal will be at the Prospect Firehouse, located at 45 Campbell Hill Road in the Village of Prospect. Dinner will include meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, a roll, dessert, tea and lemonade, all for a donation at the door. You can eat in or carry out.
CRUISE-IN — The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club will hold its cruise-in on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. The event starts at 5 p.m. and runs until dusk. Everyone is invited to bring classic or antique cars or just drop by to check them out.

HOMECOMING — Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 18, beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Rick Bucher will deliver the message, with special music provided by Debbie and Tommy England. Lunch will be served after worship.
HOMECOMING — Zion Hill Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 18 beginning at 10 a.m. with Pastor Leon Jackson delivering the morning message. Lunch will follow the service.
HOMECOMING — St. Andrews Baptist Church, located at 2100 Taro Road in Cullen, will hold Homecoming and Friends and Family Day on Sunday, Aug. 18. Rev. Dr. Maurice Finney will deliver the message during the 11 a.m. service, with a meal served after.
HOMECOMING — Midway Baptist Church’s annual homecoming service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 11 a.m. Homecoming dinner will be served following worship. There will be no afternoon service.
HOMECOMING — First Rock Baptist Church in Prospect will hold homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 18. The service begins at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Hurt delivering the word. Lunch will be served after morning worship and then the afternoon service starts at 2 p.m. Rev. Stanley Wesley will preach in the afternoon.

Michael Haskins from Organ Hill Baptist Church delivering the word on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Rev. Timothy Hurt from High Bridge Baptist Church will preach, followed by Rev. Eddie Chastin on Thursday and Rev. Isaiah Hurt from Gill Hill Baptist Church on Friday.
REVIVAL — Midway Baptist Church will hold revival Monday, Aug. 19 through Friday, Aug. 23. REVIVAL — Triumph Baptist Church will hold revival services on Friday, Aug. 23, beginning at 7 p.m. Chief Apostle T. Morrell, pastor of Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ from Charlotte, NC will be the guest preacher. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen.

ANNIVERSARY SERVICE — Triumph Baptist Church will hold its 184th anniversary and homecoming service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25. Rev. Morris Garner will preach and dinner will be served after the service. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen.

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE — The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive. The speaker will be Virginia State Sen. Ghazala Hashmi.

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE — The Buckingham County Democratic Committee will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 27, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Agricultural Building, located at 54 Administration Lane, between the Health Center and the Arts Council.

WOMEN IN RED — Jericho Baptist Church, located at 615 Franklin Street in Farmville, will hold a ‘Women in Red’ service on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. The guest preacher will be Dr. Hilda Foster and all women are invited to wear red.

FORK UNION BAPTIST CHURCH — Fork Union Baptist Church, located at 5952 Dixie Hill Road in Buckingham, has bible study every first and third Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Morning worship is held every second and fourth Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES — The congregations of Cumberland and Guinea Presbyterian Churches hold services every Sunday. EXERCISE CLASS — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, holds an exercise class every Monday and Thursday at 9 a.m. It’s free and all are welcome to attend.
HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP — Maysville Baptist Church, located at 13327 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT — An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. SOUP FOR THE SOUL — Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold “Soup for the Soul” the third Tuesday of every month, beginning at 10 a.m. Church members prepare soup to be taken out to those who need a visit. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. The group meets at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at FUMC, 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES — Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland offers three options to worship on Sundays: inside service at 10 a.m., masks are optional; 10 a.m. radio parking lot service on 89.7 FM. and YouTube service later Sunday afternoon.
FARMVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH — Farmville Baptist Church at 132 N. Main St. holds Bible study at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by worship. FARMVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. holds in-service worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday with Rev. Dr. Pete Smith. FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.
MEMOIR WRITING GROUP – The group, which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, encourages new people to join. The meetings take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Farmville Library’s main meeting room. Call Joan at (434)-607-1576 for more information.
WORSHIP AND THE WORD – Appomattox Assembly of God meets every Sunday for a Worship and the Word service, beginning at 11 a.m. The church, led by new pastor Mark Bartow, is located at 1225 Confederate Boulevard in Appomattox.
