AUGUST 23 

REVIVAL — Triumph Baptist Church will hold revival services on Friday, Aug. 23, beginning at 7 p.m. Chief Apostle T. Morrell, pastor of Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ from Charlotte, NC will be the guest preacher. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen. 

AUGUST 24

PRAYER AND PRAISE — Triumph Baptist Church will hold a prayer and praise service on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with gospel groups, praise dancers, soloists and choirs participating. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen. 

AUGUST 25 

ANNIVERSARY SERVICE — Triumph Baptist Church will hold its 184th anniversary and homecoming service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25. Rev. Morris Garner will preach and dinner will be served after the service. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen. 

HOMECOMING — Second Liberty Baptist Church, located at 6522 Andersonville Road in Dillwyn will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 25 during the 11 a.m. worship. Music will be by William Scott of Lynchburg, with Rev. Preston Little of Lynchburg delivering the message. Lunch will be served after the service. 

HOMECOMING — Mt. Zion Baptist Church will hold homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 25, during the 11 a.m. service. Lunch will follow morning worship. 

HOMECOMING — Hobson Chapel will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. Rev. Darlene Dix from Meherrin Methodist Church will deliver the message, with special music from Jay Franklin and Tarnished Brass. A meal will follow the service. 

HOMECOMING — Forest Baptist Church, located at 1097 Meherrin Road in Meherrin, will hold homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 25 during the 11 a.m. service. Rev. Robert M. Waker Sr. will deliver the message, with lunch served after worship. 

AUGUST 25 – 27 

REVIVAL — Hobson Chapel will hold homecoming services from Sunday, Aug. 25 to Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. nightly. 

AUGUST 26

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE — The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive. The speaker will be Virginia State Sen. Ghazala Hashmi. 

AUGUST 27 – 29 

REVIVAL — Second Liberty Baptist Church, located at 6522 Andersonville Road in Dillwyn, will hold revival services Aug. 27 through Aug. 29 with a 7 p.m. praise service, followed by worship at 7:30 p.m. each night. On Tuesday, Aug. 27, Rev. Jack Chambers, Associate Minister of Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church will preach, with music from the More Than Blessed Gospel Singers. On Wednesday, Aug. 28, Apostle Michael Mosley of Full Life Fellowship Ministries will deliver the message, with music from his church choir. Finally on Thursday, Aug. 29, Rev. John Bartee from St. Joy Baptist Church will preach, with music from his choir. 

AUGUST 27 

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE — The Buckingham County Democratic Committee will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 27, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Agricultural Building, located at 54 Administration Lane, between the Health Center and the Arts Council. 

AUGUST 28 – 30 

REVIVAL — Forest Baptist Church, located at 1097 Meherrin Road in Meherrin, will hold revival from Wednesday, Aug. 28 to Friday, Aug. 30. Prayer and praise service starts at 7 p.m. and worship at 7:30 p.m. each night. On Wednesday, Rev. John Craighead from Mossingford Baptist Church in Saxe will deliver the message, followed on Thursday by Rev. Faith Jones from Union Baptist Church in Arvonia. On Friday, Rev. Reginald Dabney from Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Amelia Courthouse will preach. 

SEPTEMBER 1

WOMEN IN RED — Jericho Baptist Church, located at 615 Franklin Street in Farmville, will hold a ‘Women in Red’ service on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. The guest preacher will be Dr. Hilda Foster and all women are invited to wear red. 

SEPTEMBER 5

BIRD CLUB — The Margaret Watson Bird Club will hold a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 5 featuring David Spears. He will share the highlights and photos of the club’s trip to Highland County. Group members explored multiple sites and counted 102 species. The meeting will be held at the Prince Edward County Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. Light refreshments start at 6:30 p.m., with a program to follow at 7 p.m. 

DEACONS AND TRUSTEES — The Cumberland Deacons and Trustees Conference will hold its quarterly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 5, starting at 7 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church. 

SEPTEMBER 8 

HOMECOMING — Antioch United Methodist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Sept. 8, during the 11 a.m. service. Lunch will follow, with everyone asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share. 

SEPTEMBER 14 

FISH FRY — Peaks Baptist Usher Ministry will sponsor a fish fry on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Elks Lodge on South Main Street in Farmville. The menu will include fish, french fries, soda or water for $10, with the event starting at 10 a.m. 

FALL STEW — Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 2597 Bruceville Road in Meherrin, will hold their annual fall stew on Saturday, Sept. 14, beginning at 1 p.m. At Brunswick-style chicken stew will be sold by the bowl or quart for $10.

FORK UNION BAPTIST CHURCH — Fork Union Baptist Church, located at 5952 Dixie Hill Road in Buckingham, has bible study every first and third Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Morning worship is held every second and fourth Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. 

SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES — The congregations of Cumberland and Guinea Presbyterian Churches hold services every Sunday. The Guinea service is at 10 a.m. at the church, located at 1176 Guinea Road in Farmville. The Cumberland service is held at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, beginning every Sunday at 11:15 a.m. 

TRIUMPH BAPTIST CHURCH — Triumph Baptist Church, located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Prince Edward County, welcomes everyone to services each Sunday. CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, welcomes a new pastor, Jeffery Schroeder. Sunday School is at 10 a.m., with worship services at 11:15 a.m. Outside worship is available, by tuning to 1620 AM on the radio. 

EXERCISE CLASS — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, holds an exercise class every Monday and Thursday at 9 a.m. It’s free and all are welcome to attend.

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP — Maysville Baptist Church, located at 13327 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. There is no childcare provided. Anyone with questions can call 434-414-5292. 

ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT — An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. NEW BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH — New Bethel Baptist Church in Meherrin will hold worship services on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10:45 a.m. Sunday School will be held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH — Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville holds services each Sunday morning, with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Worship Service at 11 a.m. A fellowship with donuts and coffee is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend. 

SOUP FOR THE SOUL — Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold “Soup for the Soul” the third Tuesday of every month, beginning at 10 a.m. Church members prepare soup to be taken out to those who need a visit. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH FARMVILLE — First Baptist Church located at the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in Farmville hosts Sunday worship at 11 a.m. each Sunday. The Rev. Dr. James P. Ashton leads the services. At this time, face masks and social distancing are required inside of the sanctuary.

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEETING — The Buckingham County Democratic Committee meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Agricultural Building in Buckingham County. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF DILLWYN — First Baptist Church of Dillwyn located at 16980 Oak St., Dillwyn hosts Sunday school at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

PIEDMONT CHURCH OF CHRIST — Piedmont Church of Christ located at 1405 North Main St., Farmville holds Bible study at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, and the church service starts 10:30 a.m. They have Bible study on Sunday nights at 5 p.m. and a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights. The church has a free clothing giveaway on Thursdays from 1- 3 p.m. weather permitting.

PISGAH BAPTIST CHURCH — Pisgah Baptist Church located at 202 Pisgah Road, Rice welcomes everyone each Sunday for Worship. Sunday School begins at 10 a.m. and worship starts at 11 a.m.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. The group meets at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at FUMC, 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES — Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland offers three options to worship on Sundays: inside service at 10 a.m., masks are optional; 10 a.m. radio parking lot service on 89.7 FM. and YouTube service later Sunday afternoon.

FARMVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH — Farmville Baptist Church at 132 N. Main St. holds Bible study at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by worship. FARMVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. holds in-service worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday with Rev. Dr. Pete Smith. FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.

MEMOIR WRITING GROUP – The group, which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, encourages new people to join. The meetings take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Farmville Library’s main meeting room. Call Joan at (434)-607-1576 for more information.
