AUGUST 17 

FIREHOUSE FUNDRAISER — The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host a meatloaf supper on Saturday, Aug. 17, running from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The meal will be at the Prospect Firehouse, located at 45 Campbell Hill Road in the Village of Prospect. Dinner will include meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, a roll, dessert, tea and lemonade, all for a donation at the door. You can eat in or carry out.

CRUISE-IN — The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club will hold its cruise-in on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. The event starts at 5 p.m. and runs until dusk. Everyone is invited to bring classic or antique cars or just drop by to check them out. 

FREE LOCAL MUSIC — The North Street Press Club, located at 127 North Street in Farmville, will host musician Josh Lief on Saturday, Aug. 17, starting at 9 p.m.

AUGUST 18 

HOMECOMING — Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 18, beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Rick Bucher will deliver the message, with special music provided by Debbie and Tommy England. Lunch will be served after worship. 

HOMECOMING — Zion Hill Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 18 beginning at 10 a.m. with Pastor Leon Jackson delivering the morning message. Lunch will follow the service. 

HOMECOMING — St. Andrews Baptist Church, located at 2100 Taro Road in Cullen, will hold Homecoming and Friends & Family Day on Sunday, Aug. 18. Rev. Dr. Maurice Finney will deliver the message during the 11 a.m. service, with a meal served after. 

HOMECOMING — Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Jetersville will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 18. Morning worship begins at 11 a.m. with Pastor Eugene Claiborne Jr. delivering the message. Lunch will be served afterward, with the afternoon service starting at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Irene Allen, pastor of Mount Gazerine Baptist Church in Blackstone, will deliver the message. 

HOMECOMING — Midway Baptist Church’s annual homecoming service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 11 a.m. Homecoming dinner will be served following worship. There will be no afternoon service. 

HOMECOMING — First Rock Baptist Church in Prospect will hold homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 18. The service begins at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Hurt delivering the word. Lunch will be served after morning worship and then the afternoon service starts at 2 p.m. Rev. Stanley Wesley will preach in the afternoon. 

AUGUST 19 -21

REVIVAL — St. Andrews Baptist Church, located at 2100 Taro Road in Cullen, will hold revival services Aug. 19 -21, starting at 7 p.m. nightly. The guest preacher is Rev. Stanley Wesley from Peaks Baptist Church in Prospect. 

REVIVAL — Zion Hill Baptist Church will hold revival from Monday, Aug. 19 to Wednesday, Aug. 21. Prayer and praise starts at 7 p.m. Guest ministers for the week include Rev. Jerry Streat from Poplar Lawn Baptist Church on Monday, Rev. Vatell Allen from New Hope Baptist Church on Tuesday and Rev. Robert Walker from Forest Baptist Church on Wednesday. 

AUGUST 19 – 23

REVIVAL — First Rock Baptist Church in Prospect will hold revival services Aug. 19 through Aug. 23. Rev. Irma Exantus from New Store Baptist Church will preach on Monday, with Rev. Michael Haskins from Organ Hill Baptist Church delivering the word on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Rev. Timothy Hurt from High Bridge Baptist Church will preach, followed by Rev. Eddie Chastin on Thursday and Rev. Isaiah Hurt from Gill Hill Baptist Church on Friday.

REVIVAL — Midway Baptist Church will hold revival Monday, Aug. 19 through Friday, Aug. 23. Prayer and praise starts nightly at 7 p.m., followed by worship at 7:30 p.m.  The guest ministers will be Pastor William Thomas on Monday, Pastor Howard Grooms on Tuesday, Dr. Wendy Lyle-Jones on Wednesday, Pastor Cetric Gayles on Thursday and Pastor Kevin Bolden Sr. on Friday. 

REVIVAL — Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Jetersville will hold revival services from Monday, Aug. 19 to Friday, Aug. 23. Prayer and praise starts at 7 p.m., with worship beginning at 7:30 p.m. Pastor Trinetia Banks of the Deliverance Through Jesus Apostolic Holiness Church of Blackstone will preach. 

AUGUST 23 

REVIVAL — Triumph Baptist Church will hold revival services on Friday, Aug. 23, beginning at 7 p.m. Chief Apostle T. Morrell, pastor of Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ from Charlotte, NC will be the guest preacher. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen. 

AUGUST 24

PRAYER AND PRAISE — Triumph Baptist Church will hold a prayer and praise service on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with gospel groups, praise dancers, soloists and choirs participating. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen. 

AUGUST 25 

ANNIVERSARY SERVICE — Triumph Baptist Church will hold its 184th anniversary and homecoming service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25. Rev. Morris Garner will preach and dinner will be served after the service. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen. 

HOMECOMING — Second Liberty Baptist Church, located at 6522 Andersonville Road in Dillwyn will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 25 during the 11 a.m. worship. Music will be by William Scott of Lynchburg, with Rev. Preston Little of Lynchburg delivering the message. Lunch will be served after the service. 

HOMECOMING — Mt. Zion Baptist Church will hold homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 25, during the 11 a.m. service. Lunch will follow morning worship. 

AUGUST 26

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE — The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive. The speaker will be Virginia State Sen. Ghazala Hashmi. 

AUGUST 27 – 29 

REVIVAL — Second Liberty Baptist Church, located at 6522 Andersonville Road in Dillwyn, will hold revival services Aug. 27 through Aug. 29 with a 7 p.m. praise service, followed by worship at 7:30 p.m. each night. On Tuesday, Aug. 27, Rev. Jack Chambers, Associate Minister of Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church will preach, with music from the More Than Blessed Gospel Singers. On Wednesday, Aug. 28, Apostle Michael Mosley of Full Life Fellowship Ministries will deliver the message, with music from his church choir. Finally on Thursday, Aug. 29, Rev. John Bartee from St. Joy Baptist Church will preach, with music from his choir. 

AUGUST 27 

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE – The Buckingham County Democratic Committee will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 27, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Agricultural Building, located at 54 Administration Lane, between the Health Center and the Arts Council. 

SEPTEMBER 1

WOMEN IN RED – Jericho Baptist Church, located at 615 Franklin Street in Farmville, will hold a ‘Women in Red’ service on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. The guest preacher will be Dr. Hilda Foster and all women are invited to wear red. 

SEPTEMBER 5

BIRD CLUB – The Margaret Watson Bird Club will hold a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 5 featuring David Spears. He will share the highlights and photos of the club’s trip to Highland County. Group members explored multiple sites and counted 102 species. The meeting will be held at the Prince Edward County Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. Light refreshments start at 6:30 p.m., with a program to follow at 7 p.m. 

SEPTEMBER 8 

HOMECOMING – Antioch United Methodist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Sept. 8, during the 11 a.m. service. Lunch will follow, with everyone asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

FORK UNION BAPTIST CHURCH – Fork Union Baptist Church, located at 5952 Dixie Hill Road in Buckingham, has bible study every first and third Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Morning worship is held every second and fourth Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. 

SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES – The congregations of Cumberland and Guinea Presbyterian Churches hold services every Sunday. The Guinea service is at 10 a.m. at the church, located at 1176 Guinea Road in Farmville. The Cumberland service is held at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, beginning every Sunday at 11:15 a.m. 

TRIUMPH BAPTIST CHURCH – Triumph Baptist Church, located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Prince Edward County, welcomes everyone to services each Sunday. Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. followed by Prayer/Praise and worship service at 11:00 a.m. Worship Service is live streamed on the church Facebook page.  Rev. Morris Garner is the pastor.

CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH – Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, welcomes a new pastor, Jeffery Schroeder. Sunday School is at 10 a.m., with worship services at 11:15 a.m. Outside worship is available, by tuning to 1620 AM on the radio. 

EXERCISE CLASS – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, holds an exercise class every Monday and Thursday at 9 a.m. It’s free and all are welcome to attend.

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP – Maysville Baptist Church, located at 13327 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. There is no childcare provided. Anyone with questions can call 434-414-5292. 

ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT – An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. NEW BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH – New Bethel Baptist Church in Meherrin will hold worship services on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10:45 a.m. Sunday School will be held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH – Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville holds services each Sunday morning, with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Worship Service at 11 a.m. A fellowship with donuts and coffee is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend. 

SOUP FOR THE SOUL – Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold “Soup for the Soul” the third Tuesday of every month, beginning at 10 a.m. Church members prepare soup to be taken out to those who need a visit. FARMVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH — Farmville United Methodist Church located at 212 High Street welcomes everyone to worship each Sunday. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m., followed by worship at 10 a.m.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH FARMVILLE — First Baptist Church located at the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in Farmville hosts Sunday worship at 11 a.m. each Sunday. The Rev. Dr. James P. Ashton leads the services. At this time, face masks and social distancing are required inside of the sanctuary.

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEETING — The Buckingham County Democratic Committee meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Agricultural Building in Buckingham County. PIEDMONT CHURCH OF CHRIST — Piedmont Church of Christ located at 1405 North Main St., Farmville holds Bible study at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, and the church service starts 10:30 a.m. They have Bible study on Sunday nights at 5 p.m. and a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights. The church has a free clothing giveaway on Thursdays from 1- 3 p.m. weather permitting.

PISGAH BAPTIST CHURCH — Pisgah Baptist Church located at 202 Pisgah Road, Rice welcomes everyone each Sunday for Worship. Sunday School begins at 10 a.m. and worship starts at 11 a.m.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. The group meets at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at FUMC, 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES — Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland offers three options to worship on Sundays: inside service at 10 a.m., masks are optional; 10 a.m. radio parking lot service on 89.7 FM. and YouTube service later Sunday afternoon. 

FARMVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH — Farmville Baptist Church at 132 N. Main St. holds Bible study at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by worship. FARMVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. holds in-service worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday with Rev. Dr. Pete Smith. The church also livestreams their church Facebook page and posts services on YouTube (search for the church name). FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.

MEMOIR WRITING GROUP – The group, which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, encourages new people to join. The meetings take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Farmville Library’s main meeting room. Call Joan at (434)-607-1576 for more information.
