If you drop by the Farmville-Prince Edward Library, you’ll see this year’s interactive Conservation Matters display. Now the Piedmont Soil & Water Conservation District is asking people to follow the different themes each month.
From August to May, each month the District’s display will have a different theme, one that encourages earning and action with the goal of behavior/habit changes. For example, the theme for August is recycling. The goal is to learn what is recyclable in your area and the action is to start recycling. In September, participants are encouraged to reuse and repurpose. October is don’t litter month and November is about reducing household trash.
December, meanwhile, features a focus on reducing waste and January’s display will be a call for saving electricity. In February, the District will be asking people to cut back on single use plastic and in March, people will be asked to notice the soil. April is about supporting pollinators and May encourages using less water. If each person changes just one of these habits for life, the collective effect will be visible and beneficial to us all, District officials said.
People can stop by the library to pick up a Conservation Matters Contest sheet and learn more about these topics. Sheets completed and returned by next June will receive a prize.
