In their first foray into competitive cheer, the Longwood cheer team took no prisoners.

The team earned multiple top honors at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Cheer Camp over the weekend, their first time attending an official NCA Cheer Camp. The three-day camp provides cheer teams the opportunity to learn new skills and also earn a spot to attend the national competition.

The Lancers made sure they punched their ticket by winning their division in the only two scored categories: the rally routine and the crowd segment. After two days of class, teams put their skills to the test by competing against schools like Furman, Hampton, and Presbyterian.

By virtue of winning their division in the crowd segment, the Lancers competed in the runoff, which brought together winners across all divisions, including teams from N.C. State, Clemson, South Carolina, and reigning national champion North Carolina A&T, among others.

Longwood also earned superior-blue ribbons, achieving perfect scores in the rally routine and the crowd segments. The results all added up to an NCA Collegiate Bronze Bid.

The national competition will take place April 9-13 in Daytona Beach, Florida, and the Lancers have secured their spot.
