Ronald “Ronnie” Lee Varner Sr., 79 of Appomattox, died Saturday, June 29, at his residence. Born in Appomattox, Sept. 14, 1944, he was a son of the late Helen Lucille Baldwin Varner and Herman Anderson Varner.
Ronnie owned and operated Ronnie’s Concrete Finishing for over 50 years. He enjoyed restoring old cars. Ronnie was a member of American Legion Post 104 and the Appomattox Moose Lodge #975.
Ronnie also known as “Sweet Hippie” is survived by his three children: Ronald L. Varner Jr., David R. Varner and Rodney L. Varner; one brother, Herman “Sonny” Varner Jr; two sisters, Marsha V. Ryan and husband, Ned and Carla V. Torrence and husband, James; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece and caregiver, Cheryl R. Goodwin.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Varner; two sisters, Rena Kathryn Varner and Sabina Kay Varner Pollard; and a special niece, Michele Kay Ryan.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery with Charlie Brinkley officiating.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and Ned Ryan.
