Over the July 4th holiday period, one man was arrested and charged after a traffic stop in Prince Edward County.
Prince Edward County Deputy J.R. Newman initiated a traffic stop on the night of July 3, stopping a vehicle on West Third Street. During the stop, Newman brought in Sig, one of the department’s K-9 officers, and he alerted, leading to a search of the vehicle. That search uncovered drugs and a large amount of cash inside. As a result, Calvin Whitehead Jr. of Carriage Hill Road in Farmville was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule 1 or 2 controlled substance, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, driving with a revoked or suspended license and having a tinted license plate cover.
Whitehead was given a bond and transported to the Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville. Prince Edward County Sergeants Michael Fowlkes and Jason Jenkins assisted with the arrest as well as Longwood University Police Sergeant H. Turnbull and Officer N.R. Smith. Sheriff Epps issued a statement after the incident, thanking everyone who helped with the arrest.
