Longwood Tennis adds four to women’s roster

Longwood Director of Tennis Carlos Lora announced the addition of four student-athletes to the 2024-25 women’s tennis roster on Friday.

Joining the Lancers are transfer Elizaveta Gnilozubova and freshmen Ruma Gaikaiwari, Hayley Garber and Alexandra Magia.

“We have a great group of young women coming in this year that have very highly competitive backgrounds both domestically and internationally,” Lora said. “Starting with Hayley, who has achieved great success making it to the state tournament in Ohio multiple times during her high school career. We also have Ruma and Alexandra, who have had a lot of success on the ITF circuit. Lastly, we have Elizaveta, who is coming of off two great years at Lee University. I am certainly looking forward to the accomplishments that these women will have on the court this year.”

Elizaveta Gnilozubova

Astana, Kazakhstan

Lyceum School No. 60/Lee

Gnilozubova comes to Longwood as a junior after playing two seasons of tennis at NCAA Division II Lee in Cleveland, Tenn. She was 15-14 in singles and 12-12 in doubles for the Lady Flames.

Gnilozubova helped Lee to a 20-13 two-year dual-match record, also earning a place on the 2024 Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll. 

Ruma Gaikaiwari

Pune, India

National Institute of Open Schooling

A graduate of the National Institute of Open Schooling in India, Gaikaiwari has had an exceptional junior career. She has achieved top 200 ITF rankings in junior and has been ranked as high as No. 4 in India in U18 and top 50 in the Women’s Open rankings.

Hayley Garber

Cleveland, Ohio

Hawken School

Garber played four years of varsity tennis at Hawken School in Gates Mills, Ohio, for coach by Lori Shulman. She was a four-time all-Ohio honoree and four-time all-Chagrin Valley Conference first-team selection 

Garber was named conference player of the week four times and earned Cleveland Jewish News Athlete of the Week honors three times.

Garber, who captained Hawken as a senior, helping the Hawks to four Chagrin Valley Conference titles, four section titles and four state championship berths in her career.

Alexandra Magia

Athens, Greece

4th Gel Neas Ionias

Magia attended 4th Gel Neas Ionias in Athens, Greece, winning three consecutive Hellenic team championships from 2022-24.

She has also won nine ITF tournaments in doubles and made it to the finals of three others.
