Longwood Cross Country and Track Head Coach Brooke Craig released the fall schedule for the men’s and women’s cross country teams today.
This fall, the Lancers will host a pair of meets in addition to three other races prior to the Big South Championship. The teams will open the season at the Spider Alumni Open in Richmond on August 31 with a 6K for the men and a 4K for the women.
After the warmup in Richmond, Longwood will host the Lancer Home Open the following weekend on September 7 at the teams’ home course on Johnson Drive across from the Longwood Athletic Complex.
The teams will use the rest of September to train before hitting the ground running in October with three races in three weeks. On October 5, the teams will send squads to Live at Louisville.
Longwood then returns to Farmville to host the Lancer Pink Invitational for a fourth straight season.
On October 19, the Lancers will compete in the USC Upstate Invite while simultaneously sending a separate group to the Roanoke XC Invite. Following the gauntlet of three races in three weeks, Longwood has a slight break before the Big South Championship on November 1 followed by the NCAA Southeast Regionals on November 15.
Both the men’s and women’s teams are coming off their best ever finishes in team history in 2023, and both teams have a multitude of returners.
