Six Longwood student-athletes earned accolades for their work in the classroom, as the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its Academic All-State team Thursday.

Er’ron Burton (softball), Scott Jordan (men’s golf), Saad Khan (men’s cross country and outdoor track), Alayna Palamar (women’s soccer), Luis Reis (men’s tennis) and Lauren Vick (women’s cross country and outdoor track) were all named to the team.

Jordan, who is majoring in business, helped Longwood men’s golf post the lowest scoring average in team history. In addition, Jordan earned All-Big South Honorable Mention, and he was a Dean’s List selection once this year.

Khan was one of the top runners on the Longwood men’s cross country team this year, and he is majoring in chemistry. A member of the Cormier Honors College, Khan helped the Lancer men post their best finish since joining the Big South, and he was a Dean’s List selection once. In addition, he competed in outdoor track in Longwood’s official outdoor track debut this past spring.

Alayna Palamar played a key role along the back line for the Longwood women’s soccer team, and she also earned Big South Academic Team honors. She was a President’s List selection in the fall as she majored in biology.

Luis Reis helped Longwood men’s tennis earn a spot in the Big South Tournament for the first time in five seasons. He is majoring in economics, and he was named to the President’s List in both semesters.

Lauren Vick helped the Longwood women’s cross country team post its best finish in team history in the Big South, and she is majoring in communication sciences and disorders. She also helped the Lancer outdoor track team in its debut season in the Big South. She was a two-time President’s List honoree this year.

The honors continue a strong season for Longwood student-athletes in the classroom. They tied the department record for GPA this year, and 191 student-athletes earned a spot on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll. Better than 76 percent of the student-athlete population earned the honor, and they combined for a GPA above 3.0 for a 15th straight semester.
