The Herald Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@FarmvilleHerald.com.

JULY 19 

FREE LOCAL MUSIC — Musical group Powers & Brown will perform at Three Roads Brewery on Friday, July 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

JULY 20 

CRUISE-IN — The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club will hold its monthly cruise-in on July 20 at the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. That will run from 5 p.m. until dusk, with a 50/50 raffle. Residents are invited to bring their classic or antique automobiles or simply stop by to have a look. 

JULY 21

PASTOR’S AIDE DAY — Midway will celebrate their Pastor’s Aide Ministry during morning worship on Sunday, July 21. The guest minister will be Rev. Eddie Chastain and the church is located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville. 

HOMECOMING — Bethel Grove Baptist Church, located at 10844 Green Bay Road in Rice, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, July 21, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Minister Barbara Forrest will deliver the message. 

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY — Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1144 Hendricks Road will observe Family and Friends Day on Sunday, July 21, beginning at 2:30 p.m. There will be a fellowship meal after the morning service, with Rev. Chester Jordan, Pastor of First Baptist Church delivering the afternoon message. The First Baptist Church Choir will provide the music. 

JULY 22 -24

REVIVAL — Revival service will be held at Mercy Seat Baptist Church from July 22 to July 24. Prayer and praise starts at 7 p.m., with the worship service at 7:40 p.m. Guest ministers will include Rev. Daniel Oliver on Monday, July 22, with music from his choir at Pilgrim Baptist Church. On Tuesday, it’ll be Rev. Leon Jackson preaching, with music from his Zion Hill Baptist Church choir and on Wednesday, July 24, Rev. Ollie Bolden from Petersville Baptist Church will preach, with Anthony Tucker providing music. 

JULY 22 – 26

YOUTH AND TEEN SUMMIT — New Flame Church of God in Christ, located at 308 S. Virginia Street in Farmville, will hold a Youth and Teen Summer Summit from July 22 to July 26, from noon to 8 p.m. each day. This is for ages 12 through 20. There will be day and evening sessions, bible lessons, fun activities and a sneaker gala. Lunch and dinner will be provided. Register free at https://youthteensummit.eventbrite.com.

JULY 22

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE — The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 22 at 6 p.m. in the Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive. 

JULY 27

PASTORAL INSTALLATION — New Witt Baptist Church will install their new pastor, Rev. Shandell Howell, on Saturday, July 27, beginning at 3 p.m. with a service led by Rev. Shelia Bell, along with the United Voices of Westwood. 

JULY 28 

HOMECOMING — The High Bridge Baptist Church will hold homecoming on Sunday, July 28, beginning at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served after morning worship and the church is located at 2526 Lockett Road. 

CHURCH ANNIVERSARY — Forest Baptist Church will celebrate 151 years of ministry on Sunday, July 28, during the 11 a.m. service. Rev. Roger Allen of Raleigh, North Carolina will deliver the message. 

HOMECOMING — Old Green Creek Baptist Church, located at 282 Cooks Road in Farmville, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, July 28, beginning at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served after the service. 

HOMECOMING — Oak Grove Baptist Church, located at 2083 S. James Madison Highway in Farmville, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, July 28, during the 11 a.m. service. Pastor Kevin Bolden Sr. will deliver the message, with lunch served after. 

JULY 29 – JULY 31

REVIVAL — Oak Grove Baptist Church, located at 2083 S. James Madison Highway in Farmville, will hold revival services from July 29 to July 31. Services start at 7 p.m. nightly, with Evangelist Sandy Patterson from Dillwyn Holy Temple on Monday, Rev. Dr. Patrick Bland from Mt. Pero Baptist Church on Tuesday and Elder Melvin Wingate from Living Hope Deliverance Outreach on Wednesday. 

JULY 31 – AUG. 2

REVIVAL — High Bridge Baptist Church, located at 2526 Lockett Road, will hold revival from July 31-Aug. 2. Prayer and praise begins at 7 p.m., with worship at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Wendy Lyle Jones will deliver the message on Wednesday, July 31, with music from the Apostolic of All Nation Choir. Rev. Michael Fowlkes will preach on Thursday, Aug. 1, with music from the High Bridge Baptist Choir. And on Friday, Aug. 2, Rev. Ernest Cleveland will speak, with music from the Reed Rock Baptist Choir. 

REVIVAL — Green Creek Baptist Church, located at 282 Cooks Road in Farmville, will hold revival services from Wednesday, July 31 through Friday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. nightly. Rev. Cetric Gayles, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cumberland, will deliver the sermon. 

AUGUST 2-4

PLAY PERFORMANCE — The Waterworks Players will perform the play Five Women Wearing the Same Dress by Alan Ball on Friday, Aug. 2; Saturday, Aug. 3 and Sunday, Aug. 4. The shows will run at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. show on Sunday. Tickets are $12 each and available online at https://waterworksplayers.org/buytickets. Warning: the comedic play contains mature content. 

AUGUST 4

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY — Mercy Seat Baptist Church will observe Family & Friends Day on Sunday, Aug. 4, during the 11 a.m. service. Deacon David Miller, Deaconess Janeth Gardner and Sister Rose Johnson will be recognized. 

HOMECOMING — Mt. Zion Second Baptist Church, located at 3753 Green Bay Road, will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Irma Watson. Lunch will be served before the service begins. 

HOMECOMING — Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 4, beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Tommy Armstrong will deliver the message, followed by lunch and then a song service at 1:30 p.m. with the musical group Glory Bound. 

AUG. 5 – 9

REVIVAL — Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold revival services from Monday, Aug. 5 to Friday, Aug. 9 with Rev. Jerry Gray from Iva, South Carolina as guest speaker. Special music each night starts at 7 p.m., with worship at 7:30 p.m. Music includes Floyd Reed and Worm Patterson on Monday, Tommy England on Tuesday, the Cedar Family on Wednesday, Barry Snoddy on Thursday and Andrew Bowles on Friday.

HOMECOMING — New Store Baptist Church, located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 11, beginning at 11 a.m. The theme is “Home is Where the Heart Is,” taken from Psalm 90:1, with Pastor Irma Exantus delivering the message. Lunch will immediately follow the service. 

HOMECOMING — Cornerstone Baptist Church will celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 11, during the 11 a.m. service. The service will be from Pastor Rev. Cetric Gayles, with lunch following after. 

CCLA MEETING — CCLA’s community townhall meeting is set for Sunday, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. in the Cumberland County Community Center. That’s Luther P. Jackson School, located at 71 Community Drive in Cumberland. The guest speaker will be Muriel Branch from the AMMD Pine Grove Project. 

AUG. 12 – 14

REVIVAL — Cornerstone Baptist Church will hold revival from Aug. 12 to Aug. 14, starting at 7 p.m. Pastor Timothy Hurt of High Bridge Baptist Church will preach Monday, with Pastor Rayvon Johnson of Antioch Baptist on Tuesday and Pastor Jerry Streat of Poplar Lawn Baptist Church on Wednesday. 

AUGUST 13-15

REVIVAL — New Store Baptist Church, located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville, will hold revival services Aug. 13 through Aug. 15, beginning at 7 p.m. each night with a devotional service. Worship begins at 7:30 p.m. Pastor Irma Watson of Midway Baptist Church will preach on Tuesday, Aug. 13; Apostle Michael Mosely of Full Life Fellowship Ministries will deliver the message on Wednesday, Aug. 14 and Pastor Robert Waker of Forest Baptist Church will speak on Thursday, Aug. 15.

FORK UNION BAPTIST CHURCH — Fork Union Baptist Church, located at 5952 Dixie Hill Road in Buckingham, has bible study every first and third Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Morning worship is held every second and fourth Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. 

SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES — The congregations of Cumberland and Guinea Presbyterian Churches hold services every Sunday. The Guinea service is at 10 a.m. at the church, located at 1176 Guinea Road in Farmville. The Cumberland service is held at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, beginning every Sunday at 11:15 a.m. 

TRIUMPH BAPTIST CHURCH — Triumph Baptist Church, located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Prince Edward County, welcomes everyone to services each Sunday. Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. followed by Prayer/Praise and worship service at 11:00 a.m. Worship Service is live streamed on the church Facebook page.  Rev. Morris Garner is the pastor.

CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, welcomes a new pastor, Jeffery Schroeder. Sunday School is at 10 a.m., with worship services at 11:15 a.m. Outside worship is available, by tuning to 1620 AM on the radio. 

EXERCISE CLASS — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, holds an exercise class every Monday and Thursday at 9 a.m. It’s free and all are welcome to attend.

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP — Maysville Baptist Church, located at 13327 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. There is no childcare provided. Anyone with questions can call 434-414-5292. 

ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT — An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. NEW BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH — New Bethel Baptist Church in Meherrin will hold worship services on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10:45 a.m. Sunday School will be held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH — Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville holds services each Sunday morning, with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Worship Service at 11 a.m. A fellowship with donuts and coffee is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend. 

SOUP FOR THE SOUL — Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold “Soup for the Soul” the third Tuesday of every month, beginning at 10 a.m. Church members prepare soup to be taken out to those who need a visit. CONFIDENT WOMEN MINISTRY — The Confident Women Ministry Worship Service will be held every Sunday at 3 p.m. online, via a conference call. The phone number to call in is 1-657-390-7012.

FARMVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH — Farmville United Methodist Church located at 212 High Street welcomes everyone to worship each Sunday. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m., followed by worship at 10 a.m.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH FARMVILLE — First Baptist Church located at the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in Farmville hosts Sunday worship at 11 a.m. each Sunday. The Rev. Dr. James P. Ashton leads the services. At this time, face masks and social distancing are required inside of the sanctuary.

JERICHO BAPTIST CHURCH — Jericho Baptist Church located at 615 Franklin St., Farmville will host praise and worship in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. every Sunday. You can also join the church via Facebook Live, WFLO Radio 870AM or www.wflo.net. Rev. Dr. James H. Taylor III is the pastor.

SPEARS MOUNTAIN BAPTIST CHURCH — Spears Mountain Baptist Church is located at 106 Meadow Creek Road in Buckingham. Sunday Worship Service is at 10 a.m. Pastor Robert C. Wilson.

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEETING — The Buckingham County Democratic Committee meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Agricultural Building in Buckingham County. The meetings are held at 54 Administration Lane in Buckingham, off Route 60. The Ag Building is next to the Arts Council Building.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF DILLWYN — First Baptist Church of Dillwyn located at 16980 Oak St., Dillwyn hosts Sunday school at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

PIEDMONT CHURCH OF CHRIST — Piedmont Church of Christ located at 1405 North Main St., Farmville holds Bible study at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, and the church service starts 10:30 a.m. They have Bible study on Sunday nights at 5 p.m. and a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights. The church has a free clothing giveaway on Thursdays from 1- 3 p.m. weather permitting.

PISGAH BAPTIST CHURCH — Pisgah Baptist Church located at 202 Pisgah Road, Rice welcomes everyone each Sunday for Worship. Sunday School begins at 10 a.m. and worship starts at 11 a.m.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. The group meets at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at FUMC, 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES — Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland offers three options to worship on Sundays: inside service at 10 a.m., masks are optional; 10 a.m. radio parking lot service on 89.7 FM. and YouTube service later Sunday afternoon. 

FARMVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH — Farmville Baptist Church at 132 N. Main St. holds Bible study at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by worship. Worship services are held in person and broadcast via Zoom. Specific details and more information can be found on the church website at www.farmvillebaptist.org. 

FARMVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. holds in-service worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday with Rev. Dr. Pete Smith. The church also livestreams their church Facebook page and posts services on YouTube (search for the church name). FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.

MEMOIR WRITING GROUP – The group, which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, encourages new people to join. The meetings take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Farmville Library’s main meeting room. Call Joan at (434)-607-1576 for more information. 

WORSHIP AND THE WORD – Appomattox Assembly of God meets every Sunday for a Worship and the Word service, beginning at 11 a.m. The church, led by new pastor Mark Bartow, is located at 1225 Confederate Boulevard in Appomattox.
