Hampden-Sydney Tiger earns spot on All-America Scholar list

Hampden-Sydney College men’s golf graduate Tommy Bishop has been named a 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar for NCAA Division III, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Tommy Bishop ’24 earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, graduating on May 11 with Magna cum laude honors while attaining a 3.57 GPA. He served as a team captain and ranked 93rd in Region IV with his collegiate-low 75.64 average through nine tournaments and 22 rounds. Bishop posted collegiate-low scores of 72 for 18 holes, 148 for 36 holes and 222 for 54 holes, earning three Top 20 individual finishes. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s Ted Keller Sportsman of the Year in men’s golf was also a member of both Omicron Delta Kappa (National Leadership Honors Society) and Phi Alpha Theta (National History Honors Society), and was recently named a member of the 2024 Academic All-District® Men’s At-Large Team as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). Tommy served as the H-SC Student Body President during 2023-24 and was on the H-SC Student Senate for three years, attained the Dean’s List during six of eight semesters and was a three-time ODAC All-Academic Team (2021-24) honoree.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate’s Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university. 208 Division III athletes from 81 schools earned 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors.
