Gail Calderwood ThompsonGail Calderwood Thompson, 86 of Farmville, passed away peacefully on July 23. Gail was born and raised in Washington D.C. to Frank and Edna Calderwood. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Virginia Tech in 1960 and a Master’s of Science degree from the University of Tennessee in 1966. She worked as a Home Economist in Nelson, Campbell, Bedford and Cumberland counties for over 33 years. 

Gail was very outgoing and loved cooking, reading, traveling, camping and a variety of arts and crafts including painting, weaving and pottery. She was a lifelong member of the Redbud Garden Club, the Seven Hills Camping Club and a member of the Piedmont Church of Christ.

Gail is survived by Major Thompson, her husband of 54 years; stepchildren, Jerry Thompson (Melinda) and Wanda Thompson (Jody); nieces, Teri Butler (Harris) and Karen Dodson (Lee); nephew, Robbie Calderwood, and sister-in-law, Diane Calderwood. 

The family extends their sincere gratitude and love to Gail’s caretakers and the members of the Piedmont Church of Christ who have supported the family during this difficult time. 

Visitation will start at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at the Piedmont Church of Christ 1405 N. Main Street, Farmville, VA 23901, with services at 11 a.m., interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
