Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority chapter celebrates 48 years of service

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Kappa Rho Omega Chapter of Farmville, recently celebrated its 48th anniversary of service to the community through its support of several cultural, family, community and educational endeavors.
Some of the projects that the chapter has supported include donations to local libraries, Piedmont Resources Services, FACES, and scholarships; sponsorship of the American Red Cross Bloodmobile, Seasonal Coat Drives, Pink Goes Red Heart Disease Campaign and Relay for Life; sponsorship of programs at local adult and nursing facilities and churches, Girl State participants, cultural events to colleges and universities; Adopt-a-Family; financial, employment, health and family fairs; economic empowerment workshops, tutoring and mentoring programs and field trips for middle and high school students; the distribution of masks to nursing homes and local schools and backpacks to schools which contained school supplies; the donation of benches to local park areas; the support of voter registration and census completion; Habitat for Humanity and honoring local citizens for their service to the community.
Other programs that have been supported by the local AKA chapter include Childhood Hunger, the Longest Day (Alzheimer’s Support) activities, Ellis Acres Memorial Park, a Global Impact activity where Bombas socks were donated to the community, and the Soles 4 Souls and Rock the Socks Projects; and Martin Luther King Celebration of Service activities.
Other projects that the sorority has supported include the planting of trees in honor of community residents and programs; the donation of baby supplies to the Pregnancy Support Center in Farmville ; the CHIPP program which provides Power Packs of food to students who attend Cumberland Middle School and Prince Edward Middle School; the Black Dollars/Women’s Entrepreneurs program and the support of the Fresh Girlz Group through the sorority’s Youth Leadership Program (YLI).
Through its motto of “Service To All Mankind”, the Kappa Rho Omega Chapter continues to adhere to its founding principles of education, cultural and community service.
