Pamplin woman dies after early Friday crash

One Pamplin resident is dead and Virginia State Police are investigating after an incident in the early hours of Friday morning. On Friday, May 17 at approximately 4:45 a.m., State Police were called out to an accident on eastbound Route 460.
According to information from VSP’s investigation, a 2001 Dodge Durango was heading eastbound on Route 460. Near the intersection with Old Evergreen Road, the vehicle went off the road to the right, struck a mailbox and then hit a tree.
The driver of the Durango, 44-year-old Amanda G. Layne of Pamplin, was taken to an area hospital. She died there of her injuries. VSP officials say it’s still unclear what caused the accident and the crash remains under investigation.
