In regards to the recent news on parking meters, I feel this is a big mistake by the council. With rising inflation and wages not keeping up, small businesses are already being affected enough. Increasing meter prices just adds to the burden small businesses are already facing especially in small towns like Farmville. I hope the council will reconsider this decision. This is a good reason for citizens to get more involved in their local Government and the decisions being made. I feel if they want to do this, then leave it to citizens to vote on in a referendum on the ballot this fall. It’s what county supervisors tried with the sales tax which failed but I think the Council would have no problem holding a referendum on the meter issue. It would be the best way to go about it in my humble opinion.
