Project 2025 is a movement. It’s a slow revolution that Republicans hope to bring to fruition with the election of a Republican President in November 2024. According to the book, in 1979, the Heritage Foundation launched the Mandate for Leadership project, a 20-volume, 3,000-page governing handbook containing more than 2,000 conservative policies to reform the federal government and rescue the American people from Washington dysfunction. 

It has never been more dysfunctional than it is currently under Republican “control”. A total of 277 people contributed to the development and writing of this 30-chapter document of conservative ideas for the next Republican President. Ken Cuccinelli and Peter Navarro are two of the 34 authors of “Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise”, aka Project 2025. There are 54 organizations on the Board, including The Heritage Foundation, Hillsdale College, and Liberty University. 

According to the book, the Heritage Foundation gave President-elect Ronald Reagan the inaugural Mandate for Leadership in 1980 which put the conservative movement and Reagan on the same page. Their task at hand is to restore our Republic to its original moorings which requires the collective action of their movement. 

Slow revolution, nearly half a century in the making, that we’ve witnessed a part of in the past two years as Republican-led state legislatures have passed extreme anti-rights, anti-freedom laws since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade. 

This is why Arizona’s state legislature and supreme court upheld an 1864 law that denies women their fundamental right to reproductive healthcare, why Republican-led state legislatures are banning books, abortions, IVF, and contraceptives. This is why state legislature elections and this year’s congressional and presidential elections matter. 

This is why we must vote for Democrats up and down the ballot: so that we do not return to our “original moorings”, a time when only white male property owners held all the rights.
