The annual Area Youth Art Exhibition is coming back to Farmville. The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts will host “Start with Art, Learn for Life”, this year’s art exhibition, featuring work from children and teens across multiple counties. To get that started, the community will be invited to attend a special kid-friendly opening on Sunday, June 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. 

This year’s exhibition features art created by Pre-K to 12th grade students from 24 public, private, and home schools in 10 counties (Amelia, Buckingham, Charlotte, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Lynchburg City Schools, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward). 

“Highlighting Virginia artists, no matter the age, is central to the LCVA’s mission,” said LCVA Curator of Exhibitions Alex Grablec. “I’m always impressed with the talent from the artists and dedication from their teachers.”

The centerpiece of this year’s exhibition is an installation, To Creativity and Beyond!, that will be on display in the LCVA’s Main Street Gallery. This installation was created by students from Eureka Elementary, Central Middle School, and Randolph-Henry High School with the help of their art teachers, Jes Baily, Lisa Finnegan and Megan Britt. 

How long will the exhibit run? 

You can view the artwork anytime from June 9 to Sept. 8 during regular gallery hours. That’s Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. 

And for those not familiar, LCVA presents a rotating program of inspiring and conversation-starting exhibitions. Admission to LCVA and its programs is — and always has been — free for all.
