It’s about time to head back to the water. The Rotary Club of Farmville will host its second annual Fishin’ Frenzy charity bass tournament from May 4 to May 18 of this year. And no, that’s not a misprint. The tournament will run two weeks, with competitors able to fish in any publicly accessible water in the state. They can fish from motorized boats, paddlecraft, from the bank or a dock as part of a catch, take a photo and release event using the iAngler app. 

“The competitors fished hard last year and said they wanted more time to do so, leading us to extend the tournament by a week,” said Rotarian John Miller, co-director of the Fishin’ Frenzy. 

“The extra time also gives people more chances to fish on the weekend and the evenings. 

Opening it up to statewide waters also gives anglers a chance to fish new spots.” 

Last year’s tournament was won by Buckingham County native Bill Perutelli. He caught five bass measuring 101 ½ inches in length, including a 23-inch fish. Less than three inches separated first from third place. 

Under the rules, the biggest five-fish stringer by length wins $300. The second biggest wins $200 and the third gets $100. The biggest overall fish by length wins $100. Now there is a cost of $50 to enter, with all proceeds funneled back into the community through local non-profit organizations that the Rotary Club supports.
