Catherine Jackson Garnett, 84 of Charlotte Court House, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 14. She was preceded by death by her parents, Bailey Thompson and Callie Tate Jackson; and her son, James “Jay” Mercer Garnett Jr.

Catherine is survived by her husband, James Mercer Garnett Sr.; her daughter, Susanne Garnett Spivey and husband, Thomas N.C.; five grandsons, Ben Williams, Bryan Williams, James M. Garnett III, Carson B. Garnett and Jackson T. Garnett; one sister, Elizabeth J. Ward and husband, Don; one brother, Bailey T. Jackson and wife, DeAnna; one brother-in-law, Tom Garnett; special friend, Bernardine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Catherine was a retired teacher from Charlotte County Public Schools, she was a devoted teacher and loved her students dearly. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder for many years, and she also served on the Board of Charlotte County Meals on Wheels and the Southside Soil and Water Conservation.

Catherine was a loving wife, mother, friend, and most of all she loved being a Granny to her five grandsons. She will be greatly missed by all.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 20, at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Charlotte Court House, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home, Keysville, on Friday, April 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Charlotte County Meals on Wheels or the American Cancer Society. 

The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville is in charge of arrangements.
