Beverly Lockett Garnett passed away on April 17. He was predeceased by his wife, Julia; his mother, Anna Mae Bass Garnett and his father, Benjamin Lockett Garnett. 

His is survived by his three children: Lisa Eichelberger of Christiansburg; Doug (Penny) of Rice and Steve of Chesapeake; grandson, Douglas of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Marjorie King Portsmouth and Marie Kephart (Mike) of Herndon; one brother, Blair (Alice) of Richmond; two sister-in-law’s, Jean Forbes (Rick) of Great Falls and Rebecca Thomas (Harold) of Nokesville as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Lockett attended Ferrum College, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Richmond, Harvard Business School’s Executive Development Program and Penn State’s Executive Development Program. 

He was in the Army’s 313th Medical Detachment with the 22nd Surgical Field Hospital, while serving in Vietnam from 1968-1969. 

He was a past President of the Lynn haven Rotary Club. Rotary was a large part of his life for 26 years. 

He made lifelong friends at Virginia Natural Gas where he retired after serving as Division Manager in 2000. After retiring, he taught Physical Education in the Virginia Beach Public School System. 

Lockett enjoyed farming and hunting on his farm in Rice, and he enjoyed spending time with his family. His hobby was refurbishing recycled computers for the less fortunate. 

The family would like to honor and acknowledge his many beloved friends, neighbors and members of his Sunday school class at King’s Grant Baptist Church, who provided consistent and caring companionship, friendship and homemade cookies for years. A special thanks as well goes out to his caregivers from visiting Angels Virginia Beach and his Hospice care team from Westminster Canterbury at home. Thank you for allowing him to remain at home during his final years, we especially honor his best nurse and friend, Marlene who made sure he felt safe, understood and cared for. 

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, April 26, at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Rice.
