In regards to the recent news on the Farmville Detention Center, I am happy to see progress being made on contract negotiations. With high profile cases in the news as of late, I think it’s essential it continues to operate. Yes, it’s far from perfect as shown by recent escapes but that was a rare instance in the years it’s operated. Opponents of the facility will bring up the Covid outbreak from a few years ago but the thing is there was only one death out of the 93% who tested positive. It’s just a scapegoat being used for a false narrative. Closing the facility would lead to a loss of jobs too, that many rely on and for a small town like Farmville, that would be a big hit.
