Dear Editor,
My wife and I live on Old Ridge Road in Farmville. We feel very blessed and fortunate to live in a nice neighborhood with considerate and private neighbors. We try to live a quiet and respectful life around them as well.
However, sometimes even quiet folks need to stand up for our beliefs and in solidarity with our neighbors. With that in mind, we would like to see this solar farm not be placed on Old Ridge Road.
We feel that this type of operation would greatly increase our traffic flow, decrease our neighborhood peacefulness, be potentially harmful to future generations and displace more local wildlife. All four of these things are very important to us as a family.
We are not sold on present solar technology in general, especially with the long-term ramifications of recycling the old panels. But the immediate impact for our Old Ridge community is equal to that overarching concern.
In conclusion, we realize that renewable resources are very important for the long-term sustainability of our power grid. However, with solar in particular, we feel more research needs to be done before it is placed so close to local communities.
We also realize that our local officials have a lot of very difficult tasks to tackle, not just with this complex issue. We appreciate their service to this county.
Thank you so much. We are thankful for the opportunity to write to you.
