Kostantinos Gerasimos Spiratos “Con, Costa, Boss” ,79 of Rice, passed away peacefully in his home on March 1. Costa was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on Sept. 28, 1944 of Greek parents, Kathryn Giamarelo Spiratos, whose mother , Anastasia, was from Ithaca, Greece and his father, Gerasimos Kostantinos Spiratos, who was from Cephalonia, Greece.
Con was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Wilmington, North Carolina and attended Greek school through High School.
He read “The Odyssey” and “The Illiad” in Greek as a student and played clarinet in high school band, football and basketball. He received a B.A. degree in Economics, minors in math, chemistry, biology and was captain of the debate team and MBA at GSU.
He was the Food and Beverage Director of Holiday Inn Convention Center, Atlanta, Georgia; Innkeeper (General Manager) Holiday Inn Atlanta, Georgia; Professional Photographer and a Certified Scuba Diver (P.A.D.I. and YMCA), having dived in Mexico, Bahamas and Florida Keys.
He was an instrument rated private pilot and sailed solo in the Intercoastal Waterway and Bahamas. He traveled to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Canada and 39 states in the U.S.A.
He was fluent in Greek and Spanish and was a Partner/Manager of Golden Corral, Farmville. Con attended Pisgah Baptist Church, Rice.
Con is preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Manning Spiratos; children, Lisa Doss, Anthony Doss, Michelle Doss, Jessica Crenshaw, Robert Manning and Jennifer Crenshaw; cousins, Peter Spiliotis of Fort Fisher, North Carolina and Georgia Spiliotis of Wilmington, North Carolina; godson, Anthony Megas of Jacksonville, Florida; 16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Con’s final wishes were Memorial Contributions to Pisgah Baptist Church, P.O. Box 86, Rice VA, 23966.
