MARCH 14 

JAZZ ENSEMBLE CONCERT — The Longwood University Jazz Ensemble will hold a free concert on Thursday, March 14, beginning at 7:30 p.m. That’ll be held in Jarman Auditorium, with doors opening at 6:45 p.m. The group will perform music associated with Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and Bruno Mars, among others. Instrumental soloists will include Powhatan’s senior saxophonist Regan Warinner, junior keyboardist Kristen Diffen from Newport News and senior guitarist Ian Wray from Richmond.  

TRIVIA — Three Roads Brewing, located at 312 W. Third Street in Farmville, will host trivia on Thursday, March 14, beginning at 7 p.m.

MARCH 15

MOAA MEETING — The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) will hold a meeting on Friday, March 15, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The self-pay luncheon and program will be held at Riverside Cafe, located at 522 N. Main Street in Farmville. Regina Schwabe, President of Friends of the High Bridge Trail, will speak on her naturalist experiences. All active/former/retired military officers are welcome, along with their spouses, widows and guests. 

FUNDRAISER DINNER — Randolph District Fire Department will hold a fundraiser dinner on Friday, March 15, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The dinner will include a loaded baked potato, salad, a drink and dessert. The fire department is located at 2145 Cumberland Road. 

MARCH 16 

DEMOCRATS MEETING — The Cumberland County Democratic Committee will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, March 16, beginning at 10 a.m. at Bright Hope Center. 

GOSPEL SINGING — The Confident Women Ministry will celebrate its 7th anniversary with a gospel singing on Saturday, March 16, beginning at 3 p.m. That’ll take place at North View Baptist Church, located at 21273 Highway 47. The guests will be Daughters of Faith from Drakes Branch, New Vision Gospel Singers out of Oxford, North Carolina and the Concord Male Chorus out of Chase City.

MARCH 17 

YOUTH GOSPEL EXPLOSION — Green Creek New Site Baptist Church will hold its annual Youth Gospel Explosion on Sunday, March 17, beginning at 2 p.m. The youth will be ministering through songs and praise dancing, with light refreshments served. 

MARCH 18 

NAACP MEETING — The March meeting of the Prince Edward branch of the NAACP will take place on Monday, March 18, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Moton Museum. There will be a question and answer session with the guest speaker, Dr. Maria Almond. She works as health director for the Piedmont Health District of the Virginia Department of Health. 

MARCH 20 

LENTEN LUNCHEON — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host a Lenten Luncheon on March 20. There will be a homemade lunch followed by an inspirational message by Rev. Rick Bucher from Thomas Chapel Church. Lunch starts at noon. 

MARCH 21 

TRIVIA — Three Roads Brewing, located at 312 W. Third Street in Farmville, will host trivia on Thursday, March 21, beginning at 7 p.m.

MARCH 23

TAKE A WALK — Virginia Take A Walk, a group focusing on mental health awareness, will hold its Farmville 2024 walk on Saturday, March 23, beginning at 11 a.m. The group will meet out by the LOVE sign near Greenfront Furniture.  

FARMVILLE EASTER EGG HUNT — Farmville’s Parks and Recreation Department will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 23, beginning at 11 a.m. That’ll be held at the Sports Arena, located at 1328 Zion Hill Road in Farmville. There will be crafts, raffle prizes, free photos with the Easter Bunny and an Easter Egg Hunt. The event will be rain or shine. 

MARCH 24 

PALM SUNDAY SERVICE — Guinea Presbyterian Church, located at 1176 Guinea Road in Farmville, will hold Palm Sunday service beginning at 10 a.m. 

PALM SUNDAY SERVICE — Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold a Palm Sunday Service on Sunday, March 24, beginning at 11:15 a.m. The church is located at 1835 Cumberland Road, three miles north of Farmville. 

MARCH 25-29 

HOLY WEEK SERVICES — Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1144 Hendricks Road in Pamplin, will hold Holy Week Services March 25 to 29. Prayer and praise starts at 7 p.m. and preaching starts at 7:30 p.m. Pastors are as follows: Monday: Wendy L. Jones; Tuesday: Pastor James Hurt; Wednesday: Pastor Morris Garner; Thursday: Pastor Sammy Trent and Friday: Pastor Stevie Trent.

MARCH 27 

LENTEN LUNCHEON — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host a Lenten Luncheon on Wednesday, March 27, beginning at noon. There will be a homemade lunch, followed by a message from Rev. Lewis Brandt of Jones Chapel Baptist Church. 

LENTEN LUNCHEON — Farmville United Methodist Church, located at 212 High Street in Farmville, will hold a Lenten service led by Rev. Justin Hicks, beginning at noon on March 27. The service will be followed by lunch in the church social hall.  

MARCH 28 

MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE — Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold Maundy Thursday services beginning at 7 p.m. 

MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE — Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road, will hold Maundy Thursday service beginning at 7 p.m. 

MARCH 29 

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE — Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold Good Friday services, beginning at 7 p.m. 

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE — Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold Good Friday service at 7 p.m. 

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE — Midway Baptist Church, located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville, will celebrate Good Friday with a “Seven Last Sayings of Jesus” service. That’ll take place at 7 p.m., with ministers from local churches and surrounding counties presenting the last sayings. 

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE — Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road, will hold Good Friday services beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, March 29. 

MARCH 30 

EASTER EGG HUNT — Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold an Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. A hot dog lunch will be served afterwards. 

EASTER EGG HUNT — The Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road, will host an Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 2-10 on Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be crafts and games as well. 

OUTDOOR COOKING DEMONSTRATION — The Friends of Twin Lakes State Park will hold an outdoor cooking demonstration on Saturday, March 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. That’ll take place near the Cedar Crest Conference Center at the park. Use of a Dutch oven, a box oven, a solar oven and foil packs will be included. The facility will also be open for tours, highlighting the site’s importance during the Civil Rights era. The center is located at 22 Cedar Crest Road in Green Bay and the events are free.

HOLY SATURDAY SERVICE — Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road, will hold Holy Saturday services beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. 

MARCH 31 

SUNRISE SERVICE — Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold Sunrise Service at 6:30 p.m., followed by breakfast, after which there will be a worship service at 8 a.m. The church will not hold Sunday School or an 11 a.m. service. 

SUNRISE SERVICE — Browns Chapel, located at 1711 Gravel Hill Road, will hold Easter Sunrise Service on Sunday, March 31 beginning at 6:30 a.m. Breakfast will follow at 7:30 a.m., with worship at 8:30 a.m. 

SUNRISE SERVICE — Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Dillwyn will hold Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m., with breakfast served afterwards. 

EASTER EVENTS — Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold breakfast at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 31, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. and Easter service beginning at 11 a.m.

APRIL 2-4

ANNUAL YOUTH REVIVAL — Midway Baptist Church, located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville, will hold a youth revival from April 2 to April 4 at 7 p.m. nightly, with prayer and praise followed by a worship service at 7:30 p.m. The guest ministers will be Pastor Margo Bruce on Tuesday, Min. Vernetta Bolden on Wednesday and Dr. Sarah Coleman on Thursday. 

APRIL 3 

OPENING DAY – After being closed for the winter, the Housewright House Museum and the Adams Museum will reopen on Saturday, April 3. These two museums, located across from Buckingham Courthouse at 13016 W James Anderson Hwy., Buckingham, will be open every Wednesday and Saturday from 1 to 4 pm through November. There is no admission charge.

APRIL 5

LADIES RETREAT – The Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road, will hold its 26th annual Ladies Retreat on Friday, April 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The guest speaker will be Robin Foutz of Waymaker Church in Lynchburg, talking about “Living a Spirit-Filled Life in a Culture of Self-Fulfillment”. This free event will be filled with music, worship, door prizes and a complimentary dinner. Residents are asked to register by march 22 at farmvillechurchofchrist.org.

APRIL 7 

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY – High Bridge Baptist Church will celebrate Pastor Tim Hurt and First Lady Amanda’s first pastoral anniversary on Sunday, April 7, beginning at 2 p.m. The guest preacher will be Rev. Sharon Baskerville of Broadnax. 

APRIL 12-13

MOTON ALUMNI ASSOCIATION – Robert R Moton/Prince Edward County School Alumni Association has made plans to celebrate a school reunion on April 12 and April 13. APRIL 23

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING – The Farmville-Prince Edward Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, April 23 at the Farmville Train Station. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will feature Jimmy Hurt giving a Powerpoint presentation on the French’s Church that was located in Kingsville. The group will discuss the church history and the reported 70 missing graves of French soldiers from the Revolutionary War period.

CAR CLUB MEETS — The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club meets the second Monday each month at Merk’s Place in Farmville. Eat in at 6 p.m., meeting at 7 p.m. Cruise ins are held on the third Saturday from April through October in the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. 5 p.m. till dusk. Any car owner is welcome to join the club or bring their car to the cruise ins.

SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES – The congregations of Cumberland and Guinea Presbyterian Churches hold services every Sunday. The Guinea service is at 10 a.m. at the church, located at 1176 Guinea Road in Farmville. The Cumberland service is held at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, beginning every Sunday at 11:15 a.m. 

TRIUMPH BAPTIST CHURCH – Triumph Baptist Church, located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Prince Edward County, welcomes everyone to services each Sunday. Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. followed by Prayer/Praise and worship service at 11:00 a.m. Worship Service is live streamed on the church Facebook page.  Rev. Morris Garner is the pastor.

CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH – Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, welcomes a new pastor, Jeffery Schroeder. Sunday School is at 10 a.m., with worship services at 11:15 a.m. Outside worship is available, by tuning to 1620 AM on the radio. 

EXERCISE CLASS – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, holds an exercise class every Monday and Thursday at 9 a.m. It’s free and all are welcome to attend.

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP – Maysville Baptist Church, located at 13327 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. There is no childcare provided. Anyone with questions can call 434-414-5292. 

ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT – An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. NEW BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH – New Bethel Baptist Church in Meherrin will hold worship services on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10:45 a.m. Sunday School will be held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH – Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville holds services each Sunday morning, with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Worship Service at 11 a.m. A fellowship with donuts and coffee is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend. 

SOUP FOR THE SOUL – Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold “Soup for the Soul” the third Tuesday of every month, beginning at 10 a.m. Church members prepare soup to be taken out to those who need a visit. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH FARMVILLE — First Baptist Church located at the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in Farmville hosts Sunday worship at 11 a.m. each Sunday. The Rev. Dr. James P. Ashton leads the services. At this time, face masks and social distancing are required inside of the sanctuary.

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEETING — The Buckingham County Democratic Committee meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Agricultural Building in Buckingham County. The meetings are held at 54 Administration Lane in Buckingham, off Route 60. The Ag Building is next to the Arts Council Building.

PIEDMONT CHURCH OF CHRIST — Piedmont Church of Christ located at 1405 North Main St., Farmville holds Bible study at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, and the church service starts 10:30 a.m. They have Bible study on Sunday nights at 5 p.m. and a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights. The church has a free clothing giveaway on Thursdays from 1- 3 p.m. weather permitting.

PISGAH BAPTIST CHURCH — Pisgah Baptist Church located at 202 Pisgah Road, Rice welcomes everyone each Sunday for Worship. Sunday School begins at 10 a.m. and worship starts at 11 a.m.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. The group meets at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at FUMC, 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES — Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland offers three options to worship on Sundays: inside service at 10 a.m., masks are optional; 10 a.m. radio parking lot service on 89.7 FM. and YouTube service later Sunday afternoon. 

FARMVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH — Farmville Baptist Church at 132 N. Main St. holds Bible study at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by worship. Worship services are held in person and broadcast via Zoom. Specific details and more information can be found on the church website at www.farmvillebaptist.org. 

FARMVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. holds in-service worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday with Rev. Dr. Pete Smith. The church also livestreams their church Facebook page and posts services on YouTube (search for the church name). FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.

VETERANS SERVICES — The American Legion Accredited Veterans Service Officers are available to see veterans and their family members at the Farmville VFW from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays. Veteran Service Officers may be reached at (434) 414-6504.

OLD GREEN BAPTIST — Old Green Baptist Church holds outdoor and indoor worship services at 11 a.m. the second and fourth Sundays of the month until further notice. The Rev. Samuel F. Trent is the pastor.

MEMOIR WRITING GROUP – The group, which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, encourages new people to join. The meetings take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Farmville Library’s main meeting room. Call Joan at (434)-607-1576 for more information. 

WORSHIP AND THE WORD – Appomattox Assembly of God meets every Sunday for a Worship and the Word service, beginning at 11 a.m. The church, led by new pastor Mark Bartow, is located at 1225 Confederate Boulevard in Appomattox.
