Eleven local garden clubs gathered to hear a talk on the Ikebana style of flower arranging on Thursday, Feb. 22 at Fuqua School’s Gee Price Center. The host Garden Study Club was joined by members of the Longwood Garden Club, Weyanoke Garden Club, Nora Lancaster Garden Club, Redbud Garden Club, Ruth Adams Garden Club, Cumberland Garden Club, Keysville Garden Club, Crewe Garden Club, Buckingham/Dillwyn Garden Club, and Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners. Annette Ernst, of Ikebana of Richmond, is a member of Ikebana International Chapter 1 and is ranked Kakyo, assistant professor of Ikebana third grade. She gave a brief history of the Ikebana style and spoke in depth on five schools of Ikebana arranging: Ikenobo, Sogetsu, Ohara, Ichiyo and Freestyle. Ms. Ernst walked participants through the components and steps of each of those schools.
