It’s Easter time, with celebrations happening throughout Prince Edward, Buckingham and Cumberland counties. The Herald calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@FarmvilleHerald.com.
MARCH 28-29
HOLY WEEK SERVICES — Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1144 Hendricks Road in Pamplin, will continue Holy Week Services March 28 to 29. Prayer and praise starts at 7 p.m. and preaching starts at 7:30 p.m. Pastors are as follows: Thursday: Pastor Sammy Trent and Friday: Pastor Stevie Trent.

HOLY WEEK SERVICES – New Hope Baptist Church in New Canton will hold Holy Week services on Wednesday, March 27; Thursday, March 28 and Friday, March 29. Services begin each day at 7 p.m. On Wednesday, Minister Patrice Carson from Dillwyn Holy Temple will preach about “The Plot to Betray Jesus”, while Rev. Alvin Witcher Jr. from Old Green Creek Baptist will deliver Thursday’s message “Jesus is Betrayed and Arrested”. Finally on Friday, a combination of three pastors will talk about the Three Crosses of Calvary.

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE – Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold Good Friday service at 7 p.m.
GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE – Midway Baptist Church, located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville, will celebrate Good Friday with a “Seven Last Sayings of Jesus” service. That’ll take place at 7 p.m., with ministers from local churches and surrounding counties presenting the last sayings.

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE – Farmville UMC, located at 212 High Street, will hold Good Friday services at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. The story of Jesus’ passion will be told through extended readings of Scripture, Rev. Susie Thomas will lead worship.

EASTER EGG HUNT – Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold an Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. A hot dog lunch will be served afterwards.
EASTER EGG HUNT – The Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road, will host an Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 2-10 on Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be crafts and games as well.
OUTDOOR COOKING DEMONSTRATION – The Friends of Twin Lakes State Park will hold an outdoor cooking demonstration on Saturday, March 30, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. That’ll take place near the Cedar Crest Conference Center at the park. Use of a Dutch oven, a box oven, a solar oven and foil packs will be included. The facility will also be open for tours, highlighting the site’s importance during the Civil Rights era. The center is located at 22 Cedar Crest Road in Green Bay and the events are free.
EASTER EGG HUNT – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will hold an Easter Egg Hunt from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. There will be games, hot dogs, chips and drinks.
EASTER EGG HUNT – Buckingham Baptist Church, located at 24234 N. James Madison Highway in Gold Hill will hold their annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, March 30. That’ll begin at 2 p.m. at the church.
HOLY SATURDAY SERVICE – Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road, will hold Holy Saturday services beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.

SUNRISE SERVICE – The Cumberland Union Baptist Association of Cumberland County will host a joint Resurrection Sunday Sunrise Service on Sunday, March 31, beginning at 6 a.m. That’ll take place at Bright Hope Center in Cumberland, with members of 15 churches in attendance. Rev. Tammy Mitchell from Bethlehem Baptist Church will be the preacher, accompanied by Bethlehem’s Choir.
SUNRISE SERVICE – Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 1303 Mt. Zion Road, will hold Sunrise Service at 6 a.m. with breakfast and Sunday School afterward.
SUNRISE SERVICE – Sunrise Service will be at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church on Sunday, March 31 at 6 a.m. Rev. Richard Goode, Pastor- Elect, will deliver the message. Breakfast will be served afterward.

EASTER SERVICES – Rocky Mount Church, located at 348 Rocky Mount Road in Dillwyn, will hold Sunrise Service at 7:30 a.m., followed by breakfast. The Easter worship service will be at 9 a.m., led by Rev. Ron Moore with special music by the church choir and Steve Dorrier.

EASTER SERVICE – St. Andrews Baptist Church in Cullen will hold a 7 a.m. Easter worship service on Sunday, March 31, with breakfast immediately following in the fellowship hall.
SUNRISE SERVICE – Bethel United Methodist Church, located at 3551 Andersonville Road, will hold Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 31, with a light breakfast afterward. Worship begins at 10 a.m.
EASTER SERVICE – Mercy Seat Baptist Church will hold its Sunrise/Easter service on Sunday, March 31, beginning at 8 a.m. Breakfast will be served afterward at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall.
EASTER SERVICE – Jericho Baptist Church will hold an Easter worship service beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 31. Rev. Dr. James H. Taylor III will deliver the message, with guest choir Voices of Unity. There will be no 11 a.m. service.

Communion will be served and worship will conclude with an open invitation to join the choir as they sing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s “Messiah”.

ANNUAL YOUTH REVIVAL – Midway Baptist Church, located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville, will hold a youth revival from April 2 to April 4 at 7 p.m. nightly, with prayer and praise followed by a worship service at 7:30 p.m. The guest ministers will be Pastor Margo Bruce on Tuesday, Min. Vernetta Bolden on Wednesday and Dr. Sarah Coleman on Thursday.

BEEKEEPERS MEETING – The Heart of Virginia Beekeepers will meet on Tuesday, April 2 at 7 p.m. in the Prince Edward County Extension Office. That’s located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. Keith White of Honey and the Hive will speak on sustainable beekeeping, including queens, splits and nucs. Anyone who has bees or is interested in bees is welcome. OPENING DAY – After being closed for the winter, the Housewright House Museum and the Adams Museum will reopen on Saturday, April 3. These two museums, located across from Buckingham Courthouse at 13016 W James Anderson Hwy., Buckingham, will be open every Wednesday and Saturday from 1 to 4 pm through November. There is no admission charge.

SPAGHETTI FUNDRAISER – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will hold a spaghetti fundraiser on Friday, April 5. The meal includes spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert, for a donation to a family in need. Meals are available from noon until they sell out. You can eat in the fellowship hall or take it to go.
LADIES RETREAT – The Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road, will hold its 26th annual Ladies Retreat on Friday, April 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The guest speaker will be Robin Foutz of Waymaker Church in Lynchburg, talking about “Living a Spirit-Filled Life in a Culture of Self-Fulfillment”. FISH FRY – A fundraiser for the Mary E. Branch Heritage Center will be held on Saturday, April 6, beginning at 11 a.m. A $10 plate includes two pieces of fried fish, coleslaw and french fries, while $5 gets you a fish sandwich and $4 gets a slice of sweet potato or coconut pie. HISTORIC BUCKINGHAM REOPENS – Historic Buckingham’s Village at Lee Wayside will reopen for the spring, summer and fall on Saturday, April 6. The Village will be open to the public every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Village is located at 84 Lee Wayside Rd in Buckingham.
PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY – Forest Baptist Church will celebrate Pastor Waker’s four year anniversary on Saturday, April 6, beginning at 2 p.m. Rev. Jeffrey Perkinson will deliver the Word and the Waker family will provide the music.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING – The Farmville-Prince Edward Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, April 23 at the Farmville Train Station. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will feature Jimmy Hurt giving a Powerpoint presentation on the French’s Church that was located in Kingsville. The group will discuss the church history and the reported 70 missing graves of French soldiers from the Revolutionary War period.

CAR CLUB MEETS — The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club meets the second Monday each month at Merk’s Place in Farmville. Eat in at 6 p.m., meeting at 7 p.m. Cruise ins are held on the third Saturday from April through October in the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. 5 p.m. till dusk. Any car owner is welcome to join the club or bring their car to the cruise ins.

James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT – An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. The group meets at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at FUMC, 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES — Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland offers three options to worship on Sundays: inside service at 10 a.m., masks are optional; 10 a.m. radio parking lot service on 89.7 FM. and YouTube service later Sunday afternoon.
FARMVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH — Farmville Baptist Church at 132 N. Main St. holds Bible study at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by worship. FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.
VETERANS SERVICES — The American Legion Accredited Veterans Service Officers are available to see veterans and their family members at the Farmville VFW from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays. Veteran Service Officers may be reached at (434) 414-6504.
OLD GREEN BAPTIST — Old Green Baptist Church holds outdoor and indoor worship services at 11 a.m. the second and fourth Sundays of the month until further notice. The Rev. Samuel F. Trent is the pastor.
