Donald Lee Speas, 75 of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, March 7. Donald was born to the late Orburn Lee Speas and Shirley Rose Speas of Cumberland. A 1996 Graduate of Cumberland High School, Donald worked his early years as General Manager of Cumberland Restaurant and later as Proprietor of O. L. Speas Hardware in Cumberland. 

Donald served tirelessly and with great joy as a member and officer of the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department for over 39 years. Always in tune with the local fire scanner, Donald was ready and willing to respond day or night to the needs of his community. 

In addition to his devotion to the Cumberland Fire Department, Donald was a member of the Cumberland Masonic organization and a devoted member of the Cumberland Hunting Party on Goshen Road in Cumberland. He loved the fellowship, the sharing of stories and great meals that the hunt club often had. 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sister, Shirley Ann; his brother, Bruce; his niece, Zoe Speas, and his sister-in-law, Cathy Speas. 

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 14, at 2 p.m., at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Cartersville Road, Cumberland. 

Shorter Funeral Home is serving the family. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department is encouraged.
