It was a false alarm. That was the official word from Farmville Police, after The Herald received a number of messages Thursday, concerned over a reported active shooter situation at Fuqua School.
At 10:07 a.m., the Farmville Emergency Communications Center received a call about a possible active shooter at Fuqua School. At the same time, the school went into lockdown.
According to Farmville Police, officers were on scene at Fuqua within 45 seconds of the call and started assessing the situation. They canvassed the grounds and checked the buildings.
“After thoroughly checking, it was determined that it was a false alarm,” the department said in a statement. “There [was] no threat to the school or community.”
Farmville Police thanked the Emergency Communications Center staff for their response, as well as Longwood University’s Police Department and the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office, all for assisting with the situation.
“It is through all of these quick and efficient actions we are able to live up to our mission of providing a safe and secure community through excellence in public service,” the department said in a statement.
