William David Crump Jr.William David “Billy” Crump Jr., 77 of Sheppards, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Dec. 29. 

Billy is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 53 years, Carol; his daughter, Lynnette Coe; his son, David; grandchildren, Mackenzi Crump Goin (John), Shane Crump and Teri Lynn Coe; great grandchildren, Taytum Kate Goin and Kayce John Goin; Mackenzi and Shane’s mother, Kim Banton Wooten; sisters, Marian Rothgeb, Betty Perkins and Elaine Rush (Edward); brothers in-law, James Bragg (Sandy), Don Bragg (Pam), sister in-law Debbie Mawyer; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and many special people who he thought of as family.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, W.D. “Bill” Crump Sr. and Mamie Crump; brother, Calvin Crump; nephews, Kent Perkins and Danny Rothgeb and son in-law, Billy Coe.

Billy was a member of Concord Baptist Church. He was owner and operator of Crump Construction Company, Inc. for 60 years, and just recently retired in June 2022. Having built numerous roads and many ponds in Buckingham, Prince Edward, Cumberland and Nelson Counties, he took pride in his work and was well known for his bulldozer and excavator skills. 

Billy loved spending time with his family for Sunday dinners, raising a garden to share with his neighbors and hanging out with the morning crowd at Millbrook Country Corner. He also loved to fish and go out kayaking. Billy never met a stranger and would always strike up a conversation no matter where he met you. He was dedicated, honest, compassionate and one of the hardest working men you would ever meet.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, 12053 Francisco Road, Farmville, with funeral to begin at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at the cemetery.
