Virginia Wilson JohnstonVirginia Wilson Johnston, 83, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, Jan. 7. Virginia was born and raised in Martinsville on Jan. 23, 1940 to Morgan and Mamie Wilson. She lived most of her life in Farmville and worked at Hampden-Sydney College for 43 years. 

After retirement, Virginia was a very active member of Remnant Church of Farmville; she was a volunteer with Farmville Hospice and served as the board secretary of the Farmville Free Clinic where she was also the coordinator of lunch donations. In her free time Virginia loved to work in her yard and tend to her cats.

Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Tana Johnston and Dene Johnston (Chris Michalski); two grandchildren, Eve Sotomayor and Olivia Povolski (John); one great grandchild, Claire; a sister, Louise Wall, and niece, Terri Hardin (Clay).

A funeral service took place at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville on Thursday, Jan. 11. Visitation took place at 1 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. A graveside interment will take place at Westview Cemetery in Farmville. This time will be a celebration of perseverance of Virginia’s powerful and undying faith in God.
