One person is dead and Virginia State Police (VSP) officials say they’re continuing an investigation into what caused a fatal Buckingham County crash.
Troopers were called out to the scene at 1:51 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1. According to VSP officials, a 2006 Buick Rendezvous was traveling southbound on Route 24, one mile south of Community Road, when suddenly the vehicle went off the road to the right and struck a tree.
A passenger in the vehicle, 33-year-old Kevin B. Leonard, died at the scene. The Spout Spring resident was not wearing a seat belt, said Matthew Demlein. He serves as a public relations manager for Virginia State Police.
Demlein added that the vehicle’s driver, 32-year-old Brittany Leonard of Concord, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Demlein added that charges are pending in the case.
