Several Tigers named to Academic All-District Team

Hampden-Sydney College seniors Dorian Green, George Langhammer and James-Ryan Salvi have each been named a member of the 2023 Academic All-District Football Team for NCAA Division III. The team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The standout trio of Tigers are each two-time honorees as they each received this Academic All-District distinction in 2022, as well.
Dorian Green is a biochemistry & molecular biology major at the College with a 3.58 GPA. On the field, the linebacker started all 10 games this season and had 64 total tackles, including 21 solo and 43 assisted, four tackles for loss (22 yards), 1.5 sacks (nine yards), one forced fumble and one quarterback hurry. He had at least 10 tackles in two games. Green ranked seventh in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) in assisted tackles and 17th in total tackles, earning Third Team All- ODAC honors. Dorian is a Dean’s List student, president of Alpha Epsilon Delta, vice president of Omicron Delta Kappa and a three-time ODAC All-Academic Team honoree.
George Langhammer is a foreign affairs major at the College, minoring in Spanish with a 3.91 GPA, and was a semifinalist for the 2023 William V. Campbell Trophy®. On the field, the punter played in nine games and averaged 38.9 yards on 19 punts with one punt over 50 yards, two inside the 20, and three fair caught. He ranked second in the ODAC in punting average. George is a Dean’s List student, Cushing Scholar (Freshman), Eagle Scout Scholar (Citizen-Leader, Freshman), The Institute of World Politics Summer Fellow, and a recipient of the Award of Excellence in Rhetoric (Best Rhetoric 101 Essay) and the Friend Award (Rising Senior for his ability to lead quietly, skill for bringing out the best in others, and exemplifies characteristics of honor, dignity, and generosity). Langhammer is a member of the Honor Court, Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, Kappa Alpha Order, The Alexander Hamilton Society, The Wilson Center for Leadership in The Public Interest, The Society for Collegiate Journalists, former President of Phi Alpha Delta and a three-time ODAC All-Academic Team honoree.
James-Ryan Salvi is a dual major in computer science and applied mathematics at the College with a 3.81 GPA. On the field, the safety started all 10 games and had 61 total tackles, including 21 solo and 40 assisted, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception, one pass breakup and one forced fumble. He had at least 10 tackles in one game. Salvi ranked eighth in the ODAC in assisted tackles and tied for 20th in total tackles. James-Ryan is a Dean’s List student, member of Omicron Delta Kappa and a three-time ODAC All-Academic Team honoree.
Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced Jan. 23, 2024. The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are financially supported in part by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs.
