Paul Joseph Giles, 78, of Farmville, joined his family in Heaven on Nov. 29. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Marion Giles and Juanita Drain Giles; siblings, Willie, Margaret, Tootie, Kenneth, Mary, Betty Lou, Elwood and James; and a son, Grayson Farnsworth.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Hurt Giles; children, Tammy Thornton (Tim) of Farmville, Juanita Giles (Matthew) of Keysville, Lee Giles (Linda) of Monroe, North Carolina and Brittany Jones of Farmville; grandchildren, Page, Virginia and Marion McWilliams all of Keysville, Darrius, Destiny and Keenen Jones all of Farmville; brothers, Fred Giles (Frances) of Rice and Jack Giles (Sherry) of Cumberland; sisters, Annie Mae Dunevant of Buckingham and Doris Jones of Stafford; many nieces, nephews and friends. 

After 40 years of service to Hampden-Sydney College, Paul retired as Capital Projects Manager upon completion of the Pauley Science Center. He enjoyed fishing, heavy equipment and doing for others. He never missed the opportunity to help someone out. He always said everyone needs a little help and leave things better than you found them. His compassion for others and his love for God guided him through his life. 

He was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 12676 County Line Road, Keysville, where the family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 3, from 2 p.m. until the start of services at 3 p.m. Interment to follow in Westview Cemetery, Farmville. In lieu of flowers please consider contributions to Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
