On Nov. 18, Janice Smith Cooke was called home to be with the Lord. She was born Aug. 21, 1941, to the late Maxine Admire and Cornelius “Neal” Smith of Cumberland.
Janice was a graduate of Cumberland High School and attended Johnston-Willis Nursing School, finishing her degree at the top of her class at Hermitage High School.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, James Edward Cooke; siblings: Arthur Neal Smith (Karen), Danny Smith (Cindy) and Judy Smith; sons: James “Jimmy” Edward Cooke Jr. (Karen), Jeffrey Neal Cooke (Kelly) and Jay Frederick Cooke (Sandy); grandchildren: Jeb Cooke (Jessie), Grayson Cooke (Blair), Marshall Cooke, Colby Cooke, Marley Cooke, Jordan Cooke and Jason Cooke; great-grandchildren: Frances “Franny”, Charlotte “Charlie” and Rowan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will celebrate her life at the Antioch Methodist Church in Cumberland on Dec. 27 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Antioch United Methodist Church, Farmville, or Oakwood United Methodist Church, Columbia.
