NOVEMBER 30 

TRIVIA — Three Roads Brewing, located at 312 W. Third Street in Farmville, will host trivia on Thursday, Nov. 30, beginning at 7 p.m.

DECEMBER 1-3

CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE — Historic Buckingham will hold their annual Christmas Open House events at both the Housewright Museum and the Adams Museum, during the first weekend in December. Both museums will be open and decorated for Christmas on Friday, Dec. 1 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. after the Community Tree Lighting at Buckingham Courthouse. They’ll be open again on Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with special exhibits and displays. The museums are located on Route 60 across from the Buckingham County Courthouse at 13012 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham. 

LIGHTS AT THE LAKE — The annual Bear Creek ‘Light at the Lake’ will happen Friday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 3 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Residents can drive through the holiday lights, with the donation of a new unwrapped toy or a financial gift to Cumberland Christmas Mother. There will also be craft making activities going on and the Lakeside Snack Bar will be open to sell holiday-themed ornaments, light refreshments and some other gifts.

DECEMBER 1-4

HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE — The Friends of the Cumberland Library will hold a holiday boutique on Friday, Dec. 1, Saturday, Dec. 2 and Monday, Dec. 4 at the library during regular hours. All proceeds will go to benefit the Cumberland Library, which is located at 1539 Anderson Highway in Cumberland. 

DECEMBER 1

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING — Sandy River Distillery, located at 147 Monroe Church Road in Rice, will host a Christmas tree lighting and karaoke event on Friday, Dec. 1. The tree lighting starts at 6 p.m. 

CUMBERLAND TREE LIGHTING — Cumberland County will hold its annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. That’ll take place at 1 Courthouse Circle, featuring s’mores, hot chocolate and activities for the kids. The tree lighting ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m.

BUCKINGHAM TREE LIGHTING — Buckingham County will hold its annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. on the courthouse lawn. The Buckingham County JROTC Color Guard will perform, along with Mike Jones & Family and the Enon Baptist Church Children’s Choir. Children can also look forward to a visit from Santa. 

CHRISTMAS CONCERT — The Acousticals, a men’s a cappella group from Hampden-Sydney College, will perform a Christmas concert at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.  The concert will feature a mix of contemporary and classical Christmas carols with a sing-along at the end. St. John’s Lutheran Church is located at 1301 Milnwood Road in Farmville. 

PUSS IN BOOTS PERFORMANCE — The Waterworks Players will present “Puss in Boots” on Friday, Dec. 1, beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the website waterworksplayers.org. The show will be at the Waterworks Players Theatre, located at 25 SMI Way in Farmville. 

DECEMBER 2

SANTA BREAKFAST — Cumberland Middle School will hold a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost is $8 per adult and $10 per child if you pay beforehand. It’s $12 per child at the door. The price includes a picture with Santa, a chance to do arts and crafts and breakfast. 

ROTARY CLUB PANCAKE BREAKFAST — The Rotary Club of Farmville will hold their annual pancake breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Woodland Community Center. Breakfast will include eggs, pancakes, breakfast meats and beverages provided by The Woodland. The event will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., with all proceeds going to Prince Edward Christmas Mother. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 10 and children under 5 eat free. Tickets can be purchased at Benchmark Community Bank, Citizens Bank and Trust, Piedmont Real Estate and from any Rotarian. 

WINTER WONDERLAND WORKSHOP — The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts, located at 119 W. Third Street in Farmville, will hold a free arts and crafts family workshop on Saturday, Dec. 2. Running from 10 a.m. to noon, the workshop contains a variety of arts and crafts, as well as light refreshments. Glitter, glue, and plenty of volunteers will be on hand.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPE — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will hold its annual Christmas Shoppe on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. All items are 25 cents with free wrapping. There will also be free hot dogs, chips and drinks offered. Everyone also gets a free raffle ticket, with items drawn throughout the day. 

HOLIDAY MARKET — The Farmville Downtown Partnership will hold a Holiday Market on Saturday, Dec. 2, beginning at 11 a.m. Festive booths will line Mill Street and once you’re done there, you can explore the Farmville Holiday Bazaar at the Community Market Place, stop by the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts, where there will be a Winter Wonderland arts and crafts workshop or drop in at a number of different stores in downtown that will be holding different events. 

CHRISTMAS MARKET — Historic Buckingham will hold the group’s annual Christmas market on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Historic Village, located at 84 Lee Wayside Road in Buckingham. The Christmas Market will feature art, crafts, jewelry, paintings, ornaments, baked goods and Foxfire Farm Christmas wreaths for sale.

DECEMBER 3

HANGING OF THE GREENS — Farmville United Methodist Church, located at 212 High Street in Farmville, will hold its annual Hanging of the Greens worship service on Sunday, Dec. 3, beginning at 10 a.m. 

FARMVILLE CHRISTMAS PARADE — The annual Farmville Christmas parade will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3, starting at 5:30 p.m. with a theme of “All About The Lights”. The parade will start near the Department of Motor Vehicles on North Virginia Street and 2nd Street and make its way west on 2nd Street to the North Main Street intersection and turn left onto South Main Street before ending near the McDonalds on Putney Street.

DECEMBER 4

CURDSVILLE COMMUNITY MEETING — The Curdsville Community Center will host a celebration of the Christmas holiday on Monday, Dec. 4 with music and singing. There will also be an election for the Curdsville Community Group, choosing a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. The center is located at 122 School Road, just off Route 15.

DECEMBER 5

WINTER FAMILY FUN NIGHT — Buckingham Preschool will celebrate a Winter Family Fun Night on Tuesday, Dec. 5, beginning at 5 p.m. Santa will be there, to take pictures with the children. There will also be holiday crafts and light refreshments. 

WINTER CONCERT — The Cumberland Band and Choir will hold a Winter Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 5, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland High cafetorium. The event will feature Cumberland High’s Jazz Ensemble, Beginning Band, Concert Band, Chorus and Wind Ensemble. 

BEEKEEPERS MEETING — The Heart of Virginia Beekeepers will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. That’ll be held at the Prince Edward County Extension office, located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. The group will hold a holiday potluck supper, with each member asked to bring some food to share. Also on the agenda will be elections and information about the bee school and upcoming conference. DECEMBER 6

ADVENT LUNCHEON — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host an Advent Luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 6, beginning at noon. Residents can enjoy a homemade lunch, followed by an inspirational message. 

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP — The Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet in Farmville on Wednesday, Dec. 6, beginning at 2 p.m. That meeting will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. 

DECEMBER 7

DEACONS & TRUSTEES — The Cumberland Deacons and Trustees Conference will hold its quarterly meeting at Center Union Baptist Church on Thursday, Dec. 7, beginning at 7 p.m. 

TRIVIA — Three Roads Brewing, located at 312 W. Third Street in Farmville, will host trivia on Thursday, Dec. 7, beginning at 7 p.m.

DECEMBER 8 

CHRISTMAS MARKET — The United Women in Faith group at Farmville United Methodist Church, located at 212 High Street, will hold a Christmas Market on Friday, Dec. 8. That will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the church, with seasonal baked goods, crafts, collectibles, antiques and angel figurines. Proceeds will go to help local missions. 

SANTA VISITS ANIMAL HOSPITAL — The Cumberland Animal Hospital will get a visit from Santa Claus on Friday, Dec. 8, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Animals, children and adults are all welcome to come, but there are some rules. Dogs must be on leashes until it is time to take photos and cats must be comfortable in social situations. There is no fee, but the Hospital asks people to bring a gift for Cumberland County Animal Control, be it blankets, towels, dry or canned dog food. Residents can get a photo with Santa, which will then be emailed to them.

DECEMBER 9 

PAMPLIN CHRISTMAS MARKET — The Town of Pamplin City will hold a series of Christmas events on Saturday, Dec. 9, beginning at 9 a.m. with a Christmas Market at the Pamplin Depot. The depot is located at 115 Main Street in Pamplin and the event will run before and after the parade. Santa will be around to take pictures between 10:30 a.m. and noon, along with The Grinch and Cindy Lou Hoo. There will be children’s Christmas craft projects to try, along with antique cars on display and different vendors at the market. 

PAMPLIN CHRISTMAS PARADE — Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, the Town of Pamplin City will hold its annual Christmas Parade. The route starts at the old Pamplin Elementary School on Church Street, then loops Main Street and returns to the school.

ANTEBELLUM SANTA CLAUS — Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park, located at 6541 Saylers Creek Road in Rice, will hold its annual antebellum Saint Nicholas Christmas Program on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hillsman House and Visitor Center. Saint Nicholas will be resting by the fireplace in the historic Hillsman House, where he will receive children of all ages, listen to holiday wishes, and pose for photographs. There will also be holiday craft stations set up at the Visitor Center. Four-legged family members are also welcome, but must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet and under control at all times. This event is free to the public. 

INSTALLATION SERVICE — Peaks Baptist Church, located at 1948 Peaks Road in Prospect, will hold an installation service for Pastor-Elect Rev. Stanley Wesley on Saturday, Dec. 9, beginning at 1 p.m.

THEATRE AUDITIONS — The Waterworks Players will hold auditions for “The Vagrant” on Sunday, Dec. 10 and Monday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. each night. The auditions will be held at Waterworks Players Theatre, located at 25 SMI Way in Farmville. 

DECEMBER 10 

APPRECIATION SERVICE — Sulphur Spring Baptist Church in Prospect will hold an appreciation service for Mrs. Patsy Franklin on Sunday, Dec. 10, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Calvin Gray and New Jerusalem Baptist Church will be the guests, with lunch served afterwards at the Crossroad Senior Citizens Center. 

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY — Mercy Seat Baptist Church will celebrate Rev. Walter Fells’ 17th pastoral anniversary during a service on Sunday, Dec. 10, beginning at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Byran Stevens of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Powhatan. Dr. James H. Taylor III, pastor of Jericho Baptist Church in Farmville, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies and worship leader, with music provided by Deacon Perry Carrington and the Voices of Unity. 

DECEMBER 13

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR — St. John’s Lutheran Church will hold a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 16, running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be Christmas gifts, baked goods and a cookie walk, with proceeds going to benefit the church and local charities. The church is located at 1301 Milnwood Road in Farmville. 

DECEMBER 17

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM — Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold their annual Christmas program on Sunday, Dec. 17, beginning at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served after. 

DECEMBER 18

NAACP MEETING — The Prince Edward branch of the NAACP will meet at the Robert Russa Moton Museum in Farmville on Monday, Dec. 18. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. 

DECEMBER 20

DECEMBER 22 – 23

LIVE NATIVITY — Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will present a Live Nativity on Friday, Dec. 22 and Saturday, Dec. 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.   New this year, there will be a Park, Mingle and Share option, where you park your car, walk up to view the nativity,  mingle and share with refreshments of hot chocolate, coffee and cookies.

DECEMBER 24

CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE — Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold its annual Christmas Eve service, beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24.

TOY DRIVE — The Carl Eggleston Foundation will hold its 23rd annual Christmas Toy Drive, giving out toys in the Minor B. Eggleston Chapel. That’s located at 914 S. Main Street in Farmville. The event begins at 10 a.m. The foundation is accepting new, unwrapped toys or monetary gifts through Dec. 23.

CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, welcomes a new pastor, Jeffery Schroeder. Sunday School is at 10 a.m., with worship services at 11:15 a.m. Outside worship is available, by tuning to 1620 AM on the radio. 

EXERCISE CLASS — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, holds an exercise class every Monday and Thursday at 9 a.m. It’s free and all are welcome to attend.

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP — Maysville Baptist Church, located at 13327 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT – An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. NEW BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH – New Bethel Baptist Church in Meherrin will hold worship services on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10:45 a.m. Sunday School will be held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH – Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville holds services each Sunday morning, with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Worship Service at 11 a.m. A fellowship with donuts and coffee is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend. 

SOUP FOR THE SOUL – Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold “Soup for the Soul” the third Tuesday of every month, beginning at 10 a.m. Church members prepare soup to be taken out to those who need a visit. FARMVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH — Farmville United Methodist Church located at 212 High Street welcomes everyone to worship each Sunday. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m., followed by worship at 10 a.m.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH FARMVILLE — First Baptist Church located at the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in Farmville hosts Sunday worship at 11 a.m. each Sunday. The Rev. Dr. James P. Ashton leads the services. At this time, face masks and social distancing are required inside of the sanctuary.

JERICHO BAPTIST CHURCH — Jericho Baptist Church located at 615 Franklin St., Farmville will host praise and worship in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. every Sunday. Social distancing and face masks required in the sanctuary. Rev. Dr. James H. Taylor III is the pastor.

SPEARS MOUNTAIN BAPTIST CHURCH — Spears Mountain Baptist Church is located at 106 Meadow Creek Road in Buckingham. Sunday Worship Service is at 10 a.m. Pastor Robert C. Wilson.

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEETING — The Buckingham County Democratic Committee meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Agricultural Building in Buckingham County. The meetings are held at 54 Administration Lane in Buckingham, off Route 60. The Ag Building is next to the Arts Council Building.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF DILLWYN — First Baptist Church of Dillwyn located at 16980 Oak St., Dillwyn hosts Sunday school at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

PIEDMONT CHURCH OF CHRIST — Piedmont Church of Christ located at 1405 North Main St., Farmville holds Bible study at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, and the church service starts 10:30 a.m. They have Bible study on Sunday nights at 5 p.m. and a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights. The church has a free clothing giveaway on Thursdays from 1- 3 p.m. weather permitting.

PISGAH BAPTIST CHURCH — Pisgah Baptist Church located at 202 Pisgah Road, Rice welcomes everyone each Sunday for Worship. Sunday School begins at 10 a.m. and worship starts at 11 a.m.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. The group meets at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at FUMC, 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES — Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland offers three options to worship on Sundays: inside service at 10 a.m., masks are optional; 10 a.m. radio parking lot service on 89.7 FM. and YouTube service later Sunday afternoon. 

FARMVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH — Farmville Baptist Church at 132 N. Main St. holds Bible study at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by worship. Worship services are held in person and broadcast via Zoom. Specific details and more information can be found on the church website at www.farmvillebaptist.org. 

FARMVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. holds in-service worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday with Rev. Dr. Pete Smith. The church also livestreams their church Facebook page and posts services on YouTube (search for the church name). FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.

VETERANS SERVICES — The American Legion Accredited Veterans Service Officers are available to see veterans and their family members at the Farmville VFW from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays. Veteran Service Officers may be reached at (434) 414-6504.

OLD GREEN BAPTIST — Old Green Baptist Church holds outdoor and indoor worship services at 11 a.m. the second and fourth Sundays of the month until further notice. The Rev. Samuel F. Trent is the pastor.

MEMOIR WRITING GROUP – The group, which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, encourages new people to join. The meetings take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Farmville Library’s main meeting room. Call Joan at (434)-607-1576 for more information. 

WORSHIP AND THE WORD – Appomattox Assembly of God meets every Sunday for a Worship and the Word service, beginning at 11 a.m. The church, led by new pastor Mark Bartow, is located at 1225 Confederate Boulevard in Appomattox.
