Margaret Ann Heaton HargroveMargaret Ann Heaton Hargrove passed away on Friday, Nov. 17, at the age of 97.

Margaret Ann was born on March 4, 1926, in Augusta, Georgia to Samuel Arthur Heaton Sr. and Emma Ruby Shiflet Heaton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her older brother, Sam; her husband, Dr. Roy B. Hargrove Jr.; two sons-in-law, Stuart Cochran and Danny Andrews and her great-grandson, TJ.

She is survived by her children: Kathy Andrews, Betsy Cochran and Monty Hargrove (Ashley); as well as eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and many great-grand dogs.

Margaret Ann was a doting mother and grandmother, and she enjoyed watching the antics of her great-grandchildren on videos. She always had cookies, candy and Cokes for all.

Margaret Ann was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and graduated from the University of Georgia with a major in elementary education. She taught a few years at Farmville Elementary School before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker. In later years, she worked part-time at Smitty Brothers and then at Martin the Jeweler, where she always had a little money in her purse to give to her granddaughters when they came by so they could get some delights from Terry’s Bakery.

She was a devout member of Farmville Baptist Church, where she enjoyed serving on the Social Committee and helping with Wednesday night suppers. She was a member of the Nora Lancaster Garden Club, the Third Thursday Book Club and various bridge clubs.

For the past 10 years, Margaret Ann had been a resident of the Watson Memory Care Unit at The Woodland, where she received compassionate care and was well loved. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the unit, especially Wendy Ownby, who always went above and beyond to make sure “Miss Margaret” had everything she needed and a chocolate milkshake on the side.

Arrangements are being handled by Puckett Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 1 p.m., at Westview Cemetery. In memory of her and in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Fuqua School or a charity of your choice. www.puckettfh.com
