Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the Kappa Rho Omega Chapter of Farmville, has initiated the Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (AKA CHIPP) Program. The program provides weekend and holiday meals for elementary and middle school children within our local service communities.
Currently, selected students from Cumberland County Middle School and Prince Edward County Middle School are enrolled in the program and additional students who attend other schools are expected to participate in the program later in the school year.
Members of the local chapter collected nonperishable food items for breakfast, lunch and snacks filling approximately 100 Power Pack Bags for distribution. A Color Party was held within the chapter where sorority members wore specifically assigned color tee-shirts that corresponded with the assigned food items.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has a strong history of supporting and servicing families who understand a healthy family is the foundation of a healthy community. Childhood hunger is a pressing issue affecting children which inhibits their physical and cognitive development.
