FALL BOOK SALE FUNDRAISER — The Friends of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library will hold a members only fall book sale on Thursday, Oct. 5. The sale will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a bag of books for $5.
TRIVIA — Three Roads Brewing, located at 312 W. Third Street in Farmville, will host trivia on Thursday, Oct. 5, beginning at 7 p.m.
OCTOBER 6-7
HAUNTED TRAIL — Sandy River Distillery, located at 147 Monroe Church Road in Rice, will hold a haunted trail every Friday and Saturday in October. The trail runs every 10 minutes, beginning at 6 p.m., with the first hour geared toward little ones. The scare factor jumps up at 7 p.m. Buying a ticket for the trail also includes access to the bounce house and face painting. There will also be a pumpkin patch, with paint and carving kits to decorate as you want. Tickets are $10 online at sandyriveroutdooradventures.com or $15 at the door. WALK FOR EDUCATION — The Cumberland County Public Schools Foundation will hold their 22nd annual Walk for Education from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, Oct. 6. The event will be held at the Cumberland High School track, with a rain date of Oct. 13. Donations can be made to CCPSF Inc., mailed to P.O. Box 313 Cumberland, VA 23040.

FREE LOCAL MUSIC — North Street Press Club, located at 127 North Street in Farmville, will host rock group The Seth Winters Band, on Friday, Oct. 6, beginning at 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
OCTOBER 7
FARM FEST — Historic Buckingham will hold their annual Fall Farm Fest on Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning at 10 a.m. That’ll take place at the Historic Village, located at 84 Lee Wayside Road in Buckingham. There will be plenty of kids’ activities, delicious food, animals, tractors, vendors, exhibits and music by the Farm Use Band. There is no admission fee but donations are welcome. STEW FUNDRAISER — The Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a stew fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 7. The event will be held at the firehouse on Route 13 in Cumberland. The stew will be alpha-gal friendly and available by noon, for $10 per quart. Proceeds go to help the fire department.
GOSPEL BRUNCH — The Fresh Girlz Club will hold a gospel brunch at Prince Edward County Middle School on Saturday, Oct. 7. Running from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the event will feature music from Anthony Tucker and Soldiers for Christ. The cost is $15 to attend and the school is located at 35 Eagle Drive in Farmville.
STEW FUNDRAISER — The Mercy Seat Baptist Church Missionary Ministry will hold a stew and cornbread fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 7. The event will be held at the Turnout Grounds, across from Mercy Seat Baptist Church, starting at noon. Stew and cornbread will be sold by the quart for $10.
CHICKEN AND PIG BBQ — The Darlington Heights Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual chicken and pig BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 7, running from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Plates are $12 each and include barbeque chicken or pork, baked beans, coleslaw, bread and tea or coffee. Desserts are also available.

HOMECOMING — Rocky Mount Church, located at 348 Rocky Mount Road in Dillwyn, will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 8 with special music at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. That’ll be followed by a meal in the fellowship hall.
PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY — Sharon Baptist Church, located at 1139 Plank Road in Farmville, will celebrate the 24th pastoral anniversary of Rev. Robert R. Jones at the 10 a.m. worship service. The guest preacher will be Rev. Clifford Temple Jr., pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
CHURCH ANNIVERSARY — The members of Cornerstone Baptist Church, located at 16 Horsepen Road in Farmville, will be celebrating the congregation’s 155th anniversary on Sunday, October 8. The celebration will be incorporated in the regular 11 a.m. worship service. Cornerstone’s pastor, Rev. Cetric Gayles, will be preaching the word. Dinner will be served afterwards.
FALL HARVEST RALLY — Macedonia Baptist Church will hold their fall harvest rally on Sunday, Oct. 8, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The event will feature a time of singing for Jesus and the church is located at 6643 Lockett Road in Rice.

FRIENDS OF THE CUMBERLAND LIBRARY MEETING — The Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library will hold their annual meeting on Saturday, Oct. 14 from noon to 2 p.m. That’ll take place at Payne Memorial Methodist Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland. The guest speaker will be Rick Ewing, Director of the Central Virginia Regional Library System. Lunch will be served along with a pound cake sampler. The winner of the Friends raffle will also be announced at the end of the business meeting.

NAACP MEETING — The Prince Edward branch of the NAACP will meet at the Robert Russa Moton Museum in Farmville, beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16. Presenters will include Cameron Patterson, Vice President for Student Affairs at Longwood University and Desiree Washington, Dean of Culture and Inclusion at Hampden-Sydney College.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING — The Farmville-Prince Edward Historical Society will hold its October meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The meeting will be held at the Farmville Train Station on West Third Street, beginning at 7 p.m. The focus will be The College Shoppe, a popular Main Street restaurant from 1936 through 1977.
