Helen Kathleen Zukowski, 95, long-time resident of Farmville, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, Sept. 26. She was born on Sept. 11, 1928 in Richmond to Harry and Edith (Shanks) Margaret. She will be remembered as a loving mother, granny, and aunt; caring neighbor and friend; the best fried chicken-maker and cookie-baker; an avid reader; and an all-around good listener and role model for life.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Deborah Zukowski Hiltwine and son-in-law, Craig Douglas Hiltwine; granddaughters, Jennifer Ashley Hiltwine and Stephanie Leigh Zukowski; great-granddaughter, Abigail Leigh Zukowski; as well as nieces, nephews, and their families.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Chester Thomas Zukowski; son, Steven Mitchell Zukowski; sister, Virginia Margaret Erotas and brother, Harry Sturgis Margaret Jr.

Per Helen’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. She will be buried at Riverview Cemetery in Richmond next to her husband and parents. If so moved, donations in her honor can be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org/donate.
