Well, it’s finally happened. At this point, all the high schools, colleges and universities in our area have held graduation ceremonies for their senior classes. We offer congratulations to the class of 2023, be you in high school, college or a university. May your dreams become your future. 

And as we get into summer, it’s time for Vacation Bible School and summer camps. We started one long-term summer camp this week over at Calvary Christian School. The school, a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, has full-time, part-time and extended day summer camps for children ages 2 through 10. It started on Tuesday, May 30 and it’ll keep going through Friday, Aug. 4. There’s plenty going on over there, including outdoor games, indoor activities, arts and crafts, water days, field trips and free play time, along with structured activities, cooking and baking. We mentioned Vacation Bible School and one is starting up this Sunday. Mt. Zion Baptist Church is located at 6277 Cartersville Road in New Canton. Their annual Vacation Bible School starts Sunday, June 4 and runs through Thursday, June 8 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night. There will be stuff happening for anyone in kindergarten through sixth grade. This year’s theme will be “Keepers of the Kingdom”, with dinner and snacks served each night. 

Coming up a little later this month, we’ve got another Vacation Bible School happening in the area. Cedar Baptist Church, that’s over at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold VBS from Sunday, June 11 to Thursday, June 15. Their event will run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each night for children ages three and up. There will also be an adult class available. 

On a side note, we visited in the home of Ralph and Fern Dunnavant of Dillwyn last weekend. Their son Jody Frye was also in from Arizona. 

Also, hello goes out this week to our dear friends Clyde and Eloise Senger, who live in Crewe.

Shifting around a bit, just a reminder that the Cumberland County Landfill Alert Committee will have their regular meeting coming up on Sunday, June 11. The nonprofit organization will meet at 3 p.m. at 71 Community Center Drive in Cumberland. The continued purpose of these meetings is to inform Cumberland County  residents and surrounding counties about the serious impact this Mega Landfill will have on you and your neighbors, giving you the most current update.

One day later, the Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a nonprofit organization, will hold its regular monthly meeting for members and prospective members on Monday, June 12. The event will begin at 5 p.m. at Brown’s Chapel, located at 1711 Gravel Hill Road in Dillwyn.

Finally, happy birthday wishes go out this week to Diane Zeller of Prospect, who celebrated on Tuesday, May 30.
