First off today, let’s take a minute over the next week and pay tribute to those who gave all for their country. There will be Memorial Day celebrations around the area and let us remember those men and women who have fought and continue to fight.
We can now give some more information about upcoming summer camps and Vacation Bible School events. First off, Calvary Christian School, a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, has just started enrolling for their 2023 summer camp. This covers children from ages 2 through 10, with parents given the option of choosing full-time, part-time or extended day camping. The school will offer outdoor games, indoor activities, arts and crafts, water days, field trips and free play time, as well as structured activities, cooking, baking and other opportunities. The camp runs from May 30 to Aug. 4 at the church, located at 31139 N. James Madison Highway in New Canton. For more information call 434-581-3874 or email calvarychristianeagles@gail.com
Now we shift gears from one type of summer activity to another. Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will be hosting Vacation Bible School on Sunday, June 11 through Thursday, June 15. The VBS will run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for ages 3 and up. There will also be an adult class available.
Meanwhile, the Cumberland County Landfill Alert Committee, a non-profit organization, will be hosting their regular monthly meeting on Sunday, June 11. The meeting begins at 3 p.m. at 71 Community Center Drive in Cumberland. The continued purpose of these meetings is to inform Cumberland County residents and surrounding counties about the serious impact this Mega Landfill will have on you and your neighbors giving you the most current update.
Skipping ahead a bit, the Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a nonprofit organization, will hold its regular monthly meeting for members and prospective members on Monday, June 12. The event will begin at 5 p.m. at Brown’s Chapel, located at 1711 Gravel Hill Road in Dillwyn.
All members are cordially invited to attend and bring a covered dish for the meal. Following this will be the June program. For further information or to learn more about the group, contact President Barry Miles at home (804) 492-5806 or cell (434) 315-4181.
And finally this week, happy birthday wishes go out to Della Ford of Cumberland, who celebrates on Friday, May 26; Casey Ingle of Cumberland, who also celebrates on May 26 and Diane Zeller of Prospect, who celebrates on Tuesday, May 30.
