Cumberland County High School’s varsity girls basketball team went 2-0 last week while resuming play after the school returned from a brief stint of virtual learning.
On Friday, Feb. 5, the Lady Dukes narrowly defeated Richmond Spirit Homeschool 26-25.
In only her third game with the team, sophomore Cheyenne Crenshaw had a major impact, hitting two big foul shots to tie the game late. Sophomore Nolanda Henderson followed this with a steal and was fouled. She made one foul shot to give Cumberland the go-ahead point.
“What a great game to both teams,” Lady Dukes Head Coach John Trent said.
On Wednesday, Feb. 3, Cumberland hosted Amelia County High School and won 47-43.
Lady Dukes senior Janaia Trent contributed 16 points and eight rebounds, Henderson finished with 15 points and six blocks, sophomore Kaliyah Braxton had 11 points, six boards and four blocks, sophomore Allie Hurt grabbed six rebounds and sophomore Taylor Hughes collected five.
“Chey Crenshaw is coming around real good for only her second game playing,” John Trent said Wednesday evening following the game.
