Immigration Centers of America (ICA) Farmville employees have joined the ranks of other Virginia detention facility workers who have tested positive for the coronavirus.
The U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Farmville is currently battling a large outbreak in its detainee population.
Speaking on behalf of ICA Farmville, Robert Brown, senior account executive at Truscott Rossman, said Wednesday, July 22, that 27 of the facility’s 230 staff members have also tested positive for the virus.
Brown said ICA Farmville staff are being referred to their primary care physicians for recommendations on testing and follow-up, and 24 of the 27 positive workers have since been cleared by their doctors to return to work after the virus ran its course.
Three ICA Farmville staff members have not yet returned to work, and three staff tests were pending as of Wednesday.
The ICE COVID-19 resource webpage still showed the ICA Farmville facility had 268 coronavirus-positive detainees of its 360-inmate population on Wednesday. 315 total inmates at the facility have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
