Juanita “Pat” Gormus Thompson, 67 of Cumberland passed away on Friday June 5, 2020. She was born July 31,1952 in Buckingham,Va. to the late Frances Taylor and Robert Gormus Sr. She was the wife of Carl M. Thompson Jr. Juanita was a loving and caring person. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, traveling, but mostly spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren who called her “Mapat”. She is preceded in her death by her parents, son Carl M.Thompson III, sisters: Mildred Jamerson and Janie Micklem.
She is survived by her husband, Carl, daughters; Amy Thompson, Stacy Lewis (Morgan) Alice Patterson (Matt), her grandchildren: Kristen Willis Carley Thompson, Ethan Thompson and Harland Patterson all of Cumberland; step grandchildren, Corey Patterson of Farmville and Matthew Patterson of Roanoke and also her sister, Linda Shifflett (Buddy), a brother Robert Gormus (Doris) of Buckingham and sister-in-law June Wallace of Cumberland, numerous nieces and nephews and her fur babies Copper and Luke.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 12 at 2 p.m. in the Thompson family cemetery on Rt. 45 in Cumberland. The family received friends on Thursday, June 11 from 6-8 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home. A limit of ten at a time was requested.
