The coronavirus pandemic has meant this year’s high school seniors have had to sacrifice a lot in the name of a better tomorrow.

From prom to sports, this year’s graduates have missed out on many of the traditional events that lead up to graduation day, and many schools have had to sacrifice commencement ceremonies entirely.

Fuqua School’s Class of 2020 was determined to not forego the celebration of each students’ hard work and dedication.

Seniors and school staff gathered Friday evening, June 19, at the school’s bell tower for a modified graduation ceremony. Students were able to be seated outside, while family members were able to view the ceremony “drive-thru style.”

Although there were some light showers in the afternoon, the skies cleared up enough to allow for an outdoor graduation filled with smiles and Falcon spirit.

The ceremony was also broadcast on WVHL and commentated by Richard LeSueur, as well as streamed on Facebook Live.
