Second death in three days in Buckingham prisons

A second death of a coronavirus patient was reported at the Dillwyn Correction Center (DCC) Saturday.
The death is the second in three days at state prisons in Buckingham County. A third prisoner at Buckingham Correctional Center (BKCC) was reported Thursday. Overall, five prisoners have died due to the coronavirus pandemic in Buckingham County prisoners. Three have died at BKCC and two at DCC. Overall, eight prisoners have died in Virginia.
BKCC is reporting 118 total coronavirus cases with one inmate hospitalized. The report says the prison still has 50 cases active on site. Eight staff members have been diagnosed with the virus. At DCC, there have been 324 inmates and seven staff members diagnosed positive. One inmate is currently hospitalized. The prison says 159 active cases remain on site.
Buckingham County prisons have 209 of the 573 active coronavirus cases in prisons in Virginia.
Buckingham County coronavirus cases continued to rise in the Sunday update from the Virginia Department of Health. Cases for Buckingham rose by three to 459. All three cases were in the Dillwyn zip code which has a total of 420 cases.
Cumberland County remained at 37 cases. Prince Edward County’s number held steady at 134 cases. Lunenburg County remains at 13 cases and Charlotte County cases are still at 23.
Overall, Virginia cases are at 44,607. Total deaths in Virginia are at 1,375. Deaths are projected to rise to more than 2,500 by August 4.
