Prince Edward virus cases increase by 5

Coronavirus case counts continue to rise in Prince Edward and Buckingham counties according to Saturday’s update from the Virginia Department of Health.
Prince Edward County now has 134 positive cases of coronavirus. It took Prince Edward 65 days to get to the 76-case level. It has only taken 15 days for the cases to grow by 58 cases. The biggest jump has been in the Farmville zip code of 23901 which has seen a 13-case jump in a week. The Prospect zip code of 23960 continues to be another area where case numbers are growing. The community has 24 positive coronavirus cases diagnosed. That is an increase of four cases since Tuesday. Cases if Burkeville (23922) have almost doubled in a week going from seven May 23 to 13.
Buckingham County cases have moved to 456 from 453 the day before. Dillwyn has 417 of those cases, the majority of which includes inmates in the town’s two state prisons.
Cumberland County increases by two cases from 35 to 37. Lunenburg County’s total went up to 13 cases and Charlotte County remained steady at 23 cases.
Overall, Virginia has diagnosed 43,611 cases with a total of 1,370 deaths.
